Dr. Smith in Marietta GA?

I'm researching surgeons for VSG.  I've sent Dr. Smith's office an email and I'm waiting for either a reply or a phone call.  Meanwhile, I'd like to hear from anyone who has experience with Dr. Smith.

I live in TN, so I need to know how he handles non-local patients.  His experience level with VSG?  Self-Pay prices for VSG?  Any other info you'd like to share would be great.

Yes, he does see out of state patients.  They charge a higher program fee for out of state patients.  They offer discounted prices for self pay. I don't rememnber the exact prices, but I'll look through my paperwork when I get home and let you know.

BTW he was my 1st choice for a surgeon, but I had to go with someone else because of my insurance. I think you're using a great surgeon. I have never read anything negative about him.

Thanks for your reply.  I haven't actually decided to go with him, but he does seem very good.  I just have to get the right price & travel as well.  I'm hoping the "must stay local 2 weeks" is negotiable.  My family can not do that so that would be a deal breaker.

I've heard good things about Dr Smith - but also heard he is very picky about the patients he chooses.  Why have you decided to come to GA for surgery?  Did you not find a doctor in TN that was to your liking?  Did you try Dr Husted?  He recently moved back to TN from CA.  Might want to give him a call?!?

Emily, I'm still researching surgeons at the moment.  I actually do have a couple from TN on my "short list".  I just want to make sure I consider all options.

I'll give Dr. Husted a look as well.  Right now I'm waiting on a call from Dr. Spaw from Nashville.  I'm a bit nervous about that.

Jenn, I can give you a first hand account on Dr. Smith - he is my surgeon and I had the RNY in Sept 2008.  I'm 6 months out and 10 lbs from goal.  I know everyone swears by their doctor and I guess in that respect I'm not different...

However, I will say that if I had to do it again, I would with NO HESITATION at all.....He is SUPER.  Do your research and I'm sure you'll be pleased with whtat you come up with.  Additionally, the office is great - Tara, Dee and Julia are fantastic....
