Introducing/reintroducing myself

Hi all,  my name is Terri.  I had a lapband done on 11/1/04, a slip the following 4/05 & finally a replacement in 4/06.  I lost 80+ lbs altogether, but now find myself needing a revision.  My problem is not with restriction, etc.  I have nearly a zero metabolism according to all the docs I have seen.  Trying to jumpstart it is a pain.  So it has come to me having to make the decision to do an RNY.

I am not really scared, just ticked that I went through all this the last 4-1/2 years to find I probably should have went with an RNY in the first place.  My metabolism has always been very bad.  So I needed a restrictive surgery plus the malabsorption.  Wish all these studies would have been done evn 5 years ago!  My husband had an RNY i*****nd a band over bypass in 7/05 and has lost 300 lbs.

So I am pretty familiar with the regiments, vitamins, exercise, etc.  What I am looking for is more on Doc.  I have a consultation with Dr. Williams on Weds.  I have UHC and they are only requiring a letter from him and my $15.00 copay.  With my band and my husbands we got approval in like 3-5days so hopefully we have the same process.

If anyone has any experience with the doc, revision, and just palin ol' encouragement, it is more than welcome.

Thanks,

Terri

Well welcome and good luck in finding what info. you're looking for.  I can't help there but I just wanted to say hi anyway.

I do have a question though.. what kind of tests did you have to measure the rate of your metabolism.  I think I need to have that myself. Your post started me to thinking about that.  Thanks.
I'll get the exact name of it for you, but I had several different type but mainly an all day saliva test where I had to suck/chew on a gauze in the a.m., noon, mid afternoon, & night place each one in a test tube solution and mail into the lab. I also had blood test, etc.

My Iodine levels (which most here in U.S.) were severely low.  I think it should be 14 for urine and 24 for saliva, mine is 1 for both.

Most D.O.'s & Naturopath's can or will do these test.  Had a hard time get the M.D. to look into it.  But, that is the difference with a D.O. and an M.D. on is taught to prevent (D.O.) the other (M.D.) is taught to treat.
