First off, I feel the need to apologize profusely to Lillian.  We have severely hijacked YOUR thread and should probably all be beaten with wet noodles.  So, I'm sorry for my part in it Lillian.

Now LaShelle, you've been posting some intelligent, articulate posts this past week or so and now this?  I long ago came to the conclusion that I would simply have to "agree to disagree" with you.  Not everyone has the same opinions, same insights, same ideas...that's what makes the world go around.

No one has ever accused me of being prejudiced or racist other than you.  Somehow, you have decided that because I refuse to use Dr. Duncan for WLS that I am racist?  That's a huge leap to make.  I would have no problem using him if I felt he was a good doctor.  From the information I have found out myself and information I have been given by former patients of his, I have chosen not to put my life in his hands.  This does not make me a racist.  It makes me cautious.  Surgery is dangerous.  I need to choose a doctor I can trust.  We have an abundance of bariatric surgeons here in Atlanta, he's not the only game in town.  I found a doctor I can trust and can have a long standing relationship with - something we know is very important due to the necessity of follow up with bariatric surgery.

I have been trying to make articulate, well thought out posts recently and trying not to jump on people I don't agree with.  I will continue to remind people to check out their surgeons and not just use word-of-mouth.  If someone does the research and still chooses a surgeon with a blemished record, that is their choice - but at least they will enter that relationship with open eyes.

I went back to work at the begining of the 2nd week.  Fortunately my job required no manual labor, but if I recall correctly I wasn't to lift more than 5 or 10 pounds, can't remembe which.  As long as you're not engaging in strenuous activity you should be fine, typically they want you to exercise from day one anyway (light walking etc) so a little activity is fine.

Sounds like you should do okay...I agree with what was said about follow the doctors post surgery orders and you should be fine...I haven't had my surgery yet but I did have my gallbladder removed a few years ago and that was done LAP; I went in for surgery at 8:00 am and was home that evening...Any surgery is considered major no matter what it's for and if you don't feel comfortable with something, I know you know how to speak up for yourself...I'm sure you don't have to tell you that when it comes to advice from others, consider the source, take what you can use and leave the rest...I know you're going to be just fine!

Lil,
I went in on Wed and was released Friday afternoon and back to work on Monday.  .  Each Dr is different but a couple of days seems to be pretty standard.  I have a desk job and I work at home so that was a plus for me.  I don't think they want you to drive for 2 weeks ... what I remember plus you will probably be on some sorta pain meds as you have just been cut in some capacity or another.  The worse pain to me was the gas that built up under my ribs which took a couple of weeks to go away.

Just a thought.  If you schedule your surgery on a Friday and if possible around a holiday on a Monday (is it memorial day comming up?)  that would give you 4 days and as long as you have no complications that should get you started.  I think if you have someone to take you to work you should be fine.  The hardest part will be to get your liquids in at work.  That will be your biggest challenge.

This is major surgery but as long as you have a good Dr (do your research) and there are no complications I think you can go back to your gravy job in no time!!  Best of luck and God be with you!!
