Tooth Decay And Hair Loss Anyone?????
I have not yet had RNY, but I have heard stories about tooth decay and hair lost can anyone tell me what to expect and what can I do to prevent these sort of things from happening and even if it's true for just some people I have really put a lot of work into my hair and my teeth and I would like to see them stay healthy at any cost
Thanks,
Lillian

Lillian,
If you get in all your protein and appropriate vitamins, tooth decay and hair loss will be minimal - to - none.
I IMPLORE you to investigate other surgeons/bariatric programs. If your current surgeon and/or nutritionist haven't provided you with this basic infomation, I would be EXTREMELY concerned. If their pre-op care is so lacking...what's post-op care going to look like?

Hello,
I am 8 years out....I have and have always had a lot of hair and good teeth. I have not had a problem, but I do get a minimum of 60 grams of protein a day. All you have to do is eat it with every meal. In the beginning it is hard but it does get easier.
I also take my multi vitamin 2 X a day and my calcium 2 X a day. And I do not take them together. The calcium is a blocker never take with a your multi vitamin. If you drink caffeine you can take your calcium with the caffeine but do not take your multi vitamin with caffeine. It make the iron worth less.
This is how I do it.
I get up take calcium, drink my coffee and wait 2 hours and take another calcium. Then in the afternoon I take a multi Vitamin and then in the evening I take a multi vitamin. You get used to it after a while.
We require a Nutritional eval for all our patients before your information is sent into the insurance company, it is very educational and lets the patients know what to expect after the surgery. Most surgeons have there own schedule of when foods are added in, and how to progress you the first few weeks. You will get that information at your pre-op visit after you are booked for surgery.
I know how scary it is thinking about all the things that can go wrong after surgery, however if you ask most people who have had surgery even those with complication, they will tell you they would do it over in a second.....
HAVING THE SURGERY WAS THE BEST THING I EVER DID FOR MYSELF...I AM ALMOST 50 AND I FEEL BETTER THAN I DID WHEN I WAS 25.....I NOW HAVE A LIFE!!!!! A LIFE THAT I LOVE!!!!! DOING ALL THE THINGS I HAD ONLY DREAMED OF DOING!!!!!!
THANK YOU GOD!!!!!!
Take care,
Ginger
