Is Mal-Absorbing Common?
It's when your body doesn't absorb everything that you consume... or rather, less than it normally would. In the case of RNY, I believe we absorb 60% whereas DS'ers only absorb 40% of what they normally would. RNY combines malabsorption with restriction to produce the results we often see. The malabsorption is also why it's very important to take all of your vitamin & mineral supplements post-op. You just *can't* get everything you need from food when you don't absorb enough.

Exactly! I've found that I have to take more Tylenol to effectively cut a migraine (usually 4). But, I'd be careful with the Tylenol PM. Remember, we're affected by sedatives much easier than we were before (e.g. alcohol). I'd try the usual dose & see how that works for you... the amount of pain reliever might not be enough but the sleep aid might be a doozy!
lil. The body absorbes differently after surgery than before. . With RNY Calciucum is one of more difficult things to absorbe. That is the reaason for supliments and vitamines you have to take. I'll see if I can dig up some more info for you. Ask your Dr he should be able to provide you with more information as well.

You know Lillian, it doesn't surprise me that you would ask that question because he was my doc and didn't explain anything to me and he left me to die. To get some great answers to your question, hollar out on the main board for Andrea Ullberg, she will be glad to help you. She doesn't sugar coat anything. She will shoot it to you straight.
