Can someone tell me what all was needed when you turned in clearance besides clearance because I called the insurance company and i was told i needed 5yrs documentation on attempted weight loss and  co mobesity issues, now i have high blood press.and BMI 47.8 I'm just wondering if they're going to give me a problem I've been through enough already.

Hey girl! Your surgeon's office should be helping you get that information.  What they are asking for is your history of attempts to control your weight. They want to know if you enrolled with Weigh****chers, Jenny Craig, etc.  They need to know if you tried other avenues before going to the surgery choice. Like a gym membership or a personal trainer...stuff like that.  Your medical history should document your co-morbity issues.  Hope that helps!  Good Luck.

My insurance did not require 5 year documentation. My Primary Care Doctor did write up a patient history letter as instructed from the packet I received from Dr. Duncan's seminar. My doctor wrote a letter stating how long I had been his patient, my medical history (HBP, PCOS, Hypothyroidism....) He also included my previous weight loss attempts (Weigh****chers, South Beach Diet, YMCA membership). He stated that I was morbidly obese and that WLS was in my best interest and that he supported it.  Over documentation is better than under documentation. Also make sure the clearance letters from your doctors specifically state that you are medically cleared for surgery. That is what Dr. Duncan's office looks for on the letters. Once you get approved the process goes rather quickly. I had surgery 3 weeks from the date of my first appointment with Dr. Duncan.

Good luck. Keep us posted!

Not to be totally rude but Y'ALL Nuts for using Duncan..... his background contains many neglegible law suits...etc etc... (means he was negligent in his surgeries, many lawsuits filed)

I had a friend at an attorneys office check... no go.... Ladies... check out your Dr's background.. this is your health,life....

We all make the choices we make for different reasons. I chose Duncan for a few reasons. I was referred to him by my cardiologist and PCM. He takes my insurance. Many doctors in the area do not. My experience with Dr. Duncan and his office has been nothing but positive thus far. His staff was wonderful to me and the staff at Atlanta Medical Center was better than any I have ever encountered.

I appreciate your concern but stating that you don't mean to be rude and then totally doing so doesn't make it ok, even if you have our best interest at heart.

Sorry but I really mean well... Please make sure you look further into the capability of the surgeon and his past history.... nice office staff and ins acceptability doesn't insure your safety.

Please take a look at his record ..... this is serious surgery.

I know you meant well but the wording kind-of stung a bit. I had RNY on the 10th and so far so good, Thank the Lord. Dr. Hobson did my actual surgery. It was suppose to be Duncan but Hobson ended up dong it. I feel blessed that everything has turned out so well. I met 2 other ladies that had surgery the same day as I did and both are doing very well. I do believe Duncan did their surgery.
