X-post: Shoes for working out??

Kelly C.
on 1/20/09 7:27 am - Wilkesboro, NC

My biggest issue with working out....MY SHOES!  My old new balance made my feet achy and red on the bottoms...especially the bottom of my heels!   My newer shoes...hurt the balls of my feet AND I now have blisters on the back of one of my heels!  EEK!

So, any advice for some good shoes for walking (and hopefully running someday soon!)??

I was thinking Nike Shox...for the heels....but, wanted to see what everyone else is wearing!

Thanks & Hugs,
  Kelly O.

There is a shoe store which I can not think of the name Great feet or something like that and what they do is measure your foot and give you selections that are for your foot and what you need the dhoe for. There are 2 locations I know of one on Austell Road in Austell and the other is on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs.

Personally I wear Saucony when I walk and run.  They are SO comfortable.  Saucony ONLY makes running shoes.  They are very lightweight and very comfortable.  I highly recommend them.  I second what Roxy said though, go get measured and make sure you are getting the right size shoe for your feet.

Someone mentioned RYKA in the other post.  They are made by women for women and they are very comfortable.  Ive had them before.  The heal areas is more narrow and fit better than some.  New balance has a store where they fit your foot in Alpharetta I think.  That is what my podiatrist recommended.  I have planter facetious and a friend of mine recommended Merell as she has planter facetious as well and that is why her podiatrist recommended to her.  I tried them and I love them the most!!!  So I would say RYKA as they are a little cheaper and are pretty nice but my all time favorite is Merell!!!  Oh try changing socks too... If you have a good sock your feet dont sweat as much and rub on the bottom of your shoes.  I like the thick padded ones on bottoms with little air holes in them.  I dont know the brand but I'll look and see what they are.
Inserts might help your old shoes as well!

Good luck!!

Get a pair of MBTs (Masi Barefoot Technology). They have really thick rocker soles. I live in them and would not be able to do my work as a teacher without them. You can get them at the high end speciality shoe stores, but I find them much cheaper on EBay. Go to a store like Foot Solutions and try on a pair to find your correct size( European) and then look on Ebay. they are expensive and take a little getting used to, but it is worth it to be able to walk without the pain.
