I had my DS surgery 2 1/2 yrs ago and am now past ready to get all this saggy skin cut off so I feel normal.

I live in Northeast GA and am looking for a great plastic surgeon with experience with post-bariatric patients.

I have free consultations set up w/ Dr. Whiteman and Dr. Nakano in the next few weeks.

If you've had plastics in GA and are willing to share your experience and costs, please let me know.  ANY info is greatly appreciated.

*I have posted on the plastic surgery forum, but thought since I'm looking for GA surgeons, I would post here too.

I am pre-op, so I don't have any personal experience with PS, but I heard of this surgeon from a radio segment on PS. He seemed like a well informed surgeon. The website has some great before and after pictures.

Dr. Titus Duncan is also doing plastics now. I personally would be leary about having PS by a bariatric surgeon, but it wouldn't hurt to look into it just to compare your options.

Tammy Sue,

Dr Nakano was/is my plastic surgeon, and I thoroughly love him.  Very good surgeon, and I never felt 'rushed' in making a decision about who I would choose to be my PS, and his office is not like a PS 'mill' when I am in his office.  Since he is a 'self pay' PS he wants to take all the time he needs to answer your questions thoroughly and completely.

Thanks for the good report on him.  When you had your consult, did you look over lots of before/after pics of post weight loss surgery patients?

A friend of mine attended the support group meeting with the Obesity Solutions group...any who....Dr Nakano spoke at one of their meetings, and I attended that one.  He had lots of befores and afters in his presentation and that is what helped to seal the deal as far as I was concerned.  If you would like to see mine, they are on my profile, but are private and only available for my 'friends' to view.

I saw Dr. Nakano yesterday, and you were right - he was wonderful!
He had so many pics of post-weight loss patients, and his results are fabulous.  He had such a good bedside manner, and gave me hope that there's a body hiding under all this that I had no idea existed.
He even told me there is no reason for me to lose anymore weight before plastics because my body would more than likely lose it from places I don't want it lost and everywhere else will be cut off, he said you are small, there's just loose skin hiding it all.   He showed me lots of pics with body shapes just like mine and showed me what I would look like after surgery.
He said you're so petite, we need to just expose it and fit my lower body to match my upper body.
He was very upfront about the scars and stuff too, he makes sure you're realistic about how you're going to look and where the scars will be etc.  He showed me worse case scenerio and best case scenerio and said most people fall in the middle but it can go either way.

What I liked most about him, was his approach to my thighs, there is still a lot of fat pockets on them that just won't go away.  He suggested doing aggresive (3 hrs) of lipo on there before my lbl.  He said to let it heal a few months before the lbl and that way I will get the best results possible from the lift and my outer thighs will be as slimmed down and smooth as possible and once I get the lift, as tight as possible.   He's even looking ahead at ways to minimize the need for a vertical thigh lift.  I already have issues with swelling in my feet, esp the right leg and that can be an issue after vertical thigh lifts so he's giving me the best legs he can and could finish off the thigh with the groin horizontal cut in the future as my final stage and said at that time, he'd tackle any little retouches elsewhere they might be needed.
These were all his suggestions, I've actually had to point out that I would like lipo on my thighs to the other two surgeons I've consulted with and they both said "oh yeah, we can do that", but both preferred to just do a vertical thigh lift right off - was even both of their suggestions.   He looked at my thighs in relation to the rest of my body and brought up how bottom heavy I am and how can we fix that with the best possible results to look natural.   Don't get me wrong, he did not give me a false hope that I'm going to have fabulous legs, I will still have some sag near the knees and the skin won't be as tight as doing the vertical thigh lift, but I will be so much happier this way, I'm not 22, and my legs will never look like it anyway

Tammy,

Believe it or not, I saw Dr Nakano on Tuesday for 6 mo followup from prior surgery, and everything is wonderful on that surgery.  I did discuss with him doing my arms and aggressive lipo on my thighs, which will lead to further surgery, the vertical incision when doing the dreaded Medial Thigh Lift.  Hopefully these procedures will be my last procedures.

I went to Dr Bernadette Wang Ashraf in John's Creek GA... she has a website - just do a search.

She did a WONDERFUL job, two babies later (oops) and still a nice flat tummy!  She put a pain pump in and it was out patient surgery covered 100% by my insurance because my skin hung past my pubis.

Look her up - she is GREAT!

Do you remember what it was that you had to do to get it 100% covered? I know my stomach has issues now so I can only imagine after the lost, how about arms is there a way to get it covered?

I have not heard of arms, legs or backs being covered.... however, things change.

My stomach was covered through BCBS of GA (through General Electric).  I had to have been at a stable weight for 12 months (proof of weigh ins at doctor's appointments), had to have lost at least 100lbs, and my extra skin had to hang past my pubis (private area).

The doctor will take a picture (with panties on) and send it with the above documentation.  I was approved within 3 bus days.  This was in Nov 2005.

She did an anchor cut (hip to hip) and removed 15lbs - 20lbs of extra skin. She tightened my muscles underneath and my scars on my stomach were gone (except the one from hip to hip).  The pain was nothing compared to other surgeries I have had.

Good luck!
