I just got home from a support group session where I found out that I have been approved for the program of my doc of choice, Dr. Dennis Smith, Jr.  (The meeting leader said, "Didn't you get your letter yet?")  I should get the formal letter in the mail tomorrow or Saturday.

I'm on my way!!!!!

The letter didn't come until Saturday and I called today to start the process.  I'm going to my initial consultation with Dr. Smith on Friday!  They said I'm supposed to bring a support person, though, and I don't know if I can line anyone up before then.  (I have a few close friends that I know will be great support....it's just short notice to have someone take off work.)

I'm not positive how his process works, but I think I have to have at least most of my pre-op testing done before they'll set a date.  Haven't started that yet.  I should find out on Friday what pre-op testing I need and how the rest of the process works from here on out  (I have a rough idea already from talking to people at various suppport sessions, but I don't know particulars for my case.)  I have a few big things going on in February -- company coming in town and a seminar for work -- so I'm hoping to have surgery in March.

Thanks so much for checking on me!

Congrats!

Make sure you take a support person with you.  My doctor's office said that it was mandatory and I would not be allowed to see the doctor if I didn't bring someone with me.

I just spoke with my doctor's office.  They said it's okay that I go alone to -this- meeting with the doctor.  Just guessing, maybe it's because I've been to over a dozen support sessions and a few information sessions, so they know I've done quite a bit of research and I even have support from some of my wonderful new friends from support group.  Also, since I don't have a spouse at home, it's not that I have someone nonsupportive at home.  They also know that I'll have someone staying with me for a while after surgery.  Or maybe none of the above.

But I know I definitely need a support person with me at the pre-op meeting, which I understand is a ton of additional information about the surgery itself and post-surgery.  I've already got that lined up.

Now I'm looking at my list of questions for Friday and I know I must be missing some things.  If anybody has any suggestions, will you please send them my way?  Thanks so much!

I'll be at Marietta Diner on Saturday for the Meet N Greet.    I hope to see y'all there!
