I have had an iud since aug of 2006.  Do i need to have it removed before i have surgery?  is it going to be a problem?  Also what should i take with me to the hospital?

I'm not really sure of your IUD, But I would not think that would be a problem since the doctor may not want you to get Preg, for at least 18 months after your surgery. as far as things to take to the hospital check with your doctor and see how long you are going to be there. I was in for a week. I told protein shakes, and bottled water.

I've had the Mirena IUD since 2004. I love it! I had Lap RNY in March 08. No problems, you don't have to take it out - in fact leave it in! You wouldn't want to get pregnant soon after surgery. Your surgeon shouldn't really be anywhere near your IUD. LOL

Im not sure about the IUD.. I would deffinantly mention that to Dr Hart on your visit.   As far as hospital goes I would reccomend the following:

Night gown or pjs (not a must but I prefer my own to their backless version! LOL)

HOuse shoes with a good bottom.. you will be doing alot of hall walking and you dont want to slip.

Chap stick!!!

comfy clothes to go home in.

Book, magazine or what ever you want to do in your spare time.  If your like me your ready to fact the world in about 12 hrs!

Johns creek provides you hrs! with a nice robe that you can take home!  It says Atlanta bariatrics on it and they tell you that they are not telling you to take it home but they are not saying not to!! LOL how funny is that.

Good luck Girl and keep me posted!
