lap band scares

Can anyone explain to me someone the post -op pains, any major scares, just any thing negative about the lap band and I have BCBS of Texas PPO with a $5000 ded. any insurance advice Please Help! I am new

Sadly the Georgia board is a hard place to get answers sometimes. BUT (always a but! :}) if you take your insurance questions to the insurance board, you will probably get more information there - AND if you take your lap band questions to the lap band board - you will probably get more information on that!

I would also advise you research the revision board as well.  Unfortunately I can't help because I'm pre-op and have Cigna for insurance.

Have you considered the DS?  Lap banding works for some but its long-term weight loss results aren't that encouraging.  With any procedure, there are risks.  I've heard of slippage and erosion into stomach lining with the band, though I'm not sure how common that is.  Mostly what I read about on the DS board with regard to the lap band is from people who've had it and are looking for a revision to the DS.  For long-term, sustained wieght loss and resolution of co-morbidities, studies suggest the DS is far superior.

In the end, it comes down to which procedure you're most comfortable with.  Good luck in your journey.  I'm sure you'll find lots of information if you chack our the lap band message board.
