Hello my AWESOME friends in Georgia.....oh how I miss the wonderful food and the beautiful Georgia girls....oh my..  anyway...  Just thought I'd give you a fun little story I responded to earlier today....

I've got a friend in another forum that has been discussing different situations that people who have had WLS sometimes face.  I have heard of the conversation that some people have heard called "you took the easy way out and got surgery"....

wow...I never knew that I did was so easy...like paying for it MYSELF...or the LIFETIME commitment thing....or having to pony up the money for a whole new wardrobe and new redefined healthy eating habits.  (I'm dying for a freakin' taco and there's NO tex-mex on my island...)

We all know about the struggle... sometimes it's with the insurance company...sometimes a spouse...sometimes it's a doctor, or a best friend who is jealous... or coworkers who are miserable and must sabotage you or the sake of being green with envy..... there are a ton of ramifications these people never know about...  yet it's convenient to call it "easy"....if it's so easy why isn't everyone doing it?

Here's a little bit of my suggestion fo her...i hope you fine Texas folks can appreciate my love for the WLS community....and dark humor.....

I'm a RnY too...  I laugh in the face of people who tell me I took the easy way....  I give them the "special" finger and I fly it proudly see, I also teach my friends how to do it....

THAT"S RIGHT ABSOLUTELY FREE....

check it out and stuff------->

Megan - Bird by merkley???.

My friend Johnny Cash taught me how to do it and I can teach all of you....  watch the picture below carefully....  Watch the form and the enthusiasm....  Mr Cash knew his stuff....yep...

I say AMEN to all of us who have gone forth and did the WLS we wanted and for the nay-sayers....beware the ghost of Mr Johnny Cash...for he rides in the same car that I do....

Fade to black...  I take my bow....   (insert evil laugh here----> bwahahaha haaha haha ha...and stuff)

WLS IS an easy way to initially lose a tremendous amount of weight in a short period of time, hence the perception ~ it’s the easy way out.  The surgery is designed to physically limit the amount of food consumed ~ WLS patients quite literally drop weight amazingly fast.  Scroll through the boards ~ how many posts to you see stating something to the effect of ~ 'I'm 2 weeks out and I've lost 25 pounds' or I'm 6 months out and down 100 pounds'.  'People' ~ those who are not O, MO or SMO are generally referring to the above rather than insinuating surgery is an easy way out.
Is it really that difficult to understand where the perception originates?  Honestly?  Had a WLS patient NOT had surgery ~ realistically speaking how many pounds would he/she have lost in the same period of time?  It's a matter of perception.

Like paying for it MYSELF...or the LIFETIME commitment thing....or having to pony up the money for a whole new wardrobe and new redefined healthy eating habits.

To automatically go on the defensive suggests there may be a grain of truth in how WLS patients are perceived.  Opting to pay out of pocket for WLS was a choice you made. The same can be said for the plastic surgery patient who is unhappy with this or that body part. In their eyes, the perceived defect is enormous and therefore he/she may opt to pay for surgery to correct something they’re not happy about. You can bet your jingle bells that PS patient has been perceived as vain.
Everyone has a lifetime commitment to caring for themselves whether they've had WLS surgery or not.  Some are able to do so without surgical intervention ~ but it takes as much commitment on their part to achieve/maintain success as it does for a WLS patient. And let’s not forget, they don’t have the WLS tool, do they?
Again ~ everyone has to pony up money for their wardrobe ~ WLS or not. Here’s the bottom line:  WLS is necessary in many instances however let’s not forget the fact that everyone who has had the surgery bears some responsibility for putting themselves in the position of finding it necessary.
