I know that you have to make up your own mind, But my doctor left mine in because if something was to happen I could have it fixed. But not all Doctors leave part of it. They take it out. If you would like I could send you my doctors information or you could just check out the Alabama board, his link is at the top of that board, Dr Freeman.

Originally when I started this journey I was at 206 pounds and 5'1". The decision to have WLS had a great deal to do with the medical issues that I was dealing with at the time that was life threatening. Thank God, I no longer have those issues and I'm 25 - 30 pounds from my goal. In total my weight loss will be approximately 80 -85 pounds....which I think is an significant amount of weight. I am a single parent of a 4 year old and I really want to stick around and see my child grow to an adult.
While I know you said you did not mean to sound judgmental - and thank you for that remark, I would like to say that no matter how much weight one has to lose it really is a personal decision with many factors to consider - i.e., financial aspects, health risks (before, during and possible complications after surgery). When I made the decision I did not make it lightly. Hope this helps.

No, I understand no one would make the decision to have surgery lightly. Just looking at your start of 185 and not knowing your height makes a difference. I mean, by a BMI scale, at 185 while I would still be considered slightly overweight, I'd probably be gorgeous! I don't ever remember weighing 185 in my life. I was probably there sometime in my EARLY teenage years. I see where at 5'1" it puts your BMI in line for the surgery with co-morbids...so I do understand.
I just saw that since surgery you were shooting for 50-ish pounds and thought to myself "Heck, I can do that with my eyes shut and my hands tied behind my back...though I can't keep it off". I'm still pre-surgery and have lost nearly 60 pounds. I have about 200 to go. So, I understand now where you are coming from. Keep up the good work!
