Dr. Macik was my surgeon.  I had LAP RNY on Oct 22nd.  I am not too familiar with VSG but we both live in the same county so if you have any questions and want to talk I am here.  Good luck!

Hi Cherie.  He has only done 11 sleeves.  VSG is vertical sleeve.  They take out most of your stomach and staple the rest closed.  How are you doing?  Yes we are in the same county.  Do you have any children?  Did you like Dr. Macik.  I've only seen him once.

Hi Linda,

I am doing great now!  I had a little bump in the road and had to stay an extra day in the hospital.  Then I got home for a week and had to go back for another week in the hospital.  However, I am feeling great again.  I went to the support group last night at NorthSide, were you there?  If not, I suggest that you go each month, it is wonderful!!  I do not have children.  I like Dr. Macik, Heneree, and Tifany.  The entire group is wonderful.  Are you going to the meet and greet tomorrow at Logan's?  I am not sure if I am going yet. You can also contact me through my personal email at [email protected].  I assume that you are having your surgery at Northside.  You will be on the 4th floor just for Bariatrics and it is wonderful- The nurses and everyone are GREAT!!

Thanks Cherie.  I am going to Northside.  Haven't gone to the support group yet.  There is one at Henry General also.  I think it is the 4th Tuesday of the month.  I will be going to Northside for the surgery.  I do like Triffany but I haven't had much to do with Heneree or Dr. Macik.  Glad to hear that NS has a Bariatrics floor.  What were your complications if you don't mind me asking?

I had a ulcer form under my pouch near the connection of the small intestine that was bleeding.  I lost a great deal of blood and had to receive several units of blood transfusions.

Hi Linda....I will be having surgery with Dr. Macik because my Insurance Kaiser uses him for their patients WLS.  I was first interested in the band and then decided I would prefer the sleeve.  It does concern me that he has only done 11 VSG's.  How do you feel about that?  I have read that he is a preety good, but I guess he has more experience with lapband and RNY.  Please let me know how everything goes?

Hi Gwen:  I guess he is a good surgeon.  He operates at great hospitals.  They say the sleeve is an easy surgery.  Seems easier than the RNY to me.  I'm glad you choose the sleeve instead of the band. I believe the VSG is the way to go.  A friend of mine had Kaiser and she used Dr. Macik.  She liked him.  She also used Northside Hospital and said they were wonderful.  They took great care of her.  She is doing great and has lost about 100 since her surgery last November.  She did have to go through hoops for Kaiser she said.  It took her a long time for approval.  I think the sleeve is a life time change.  Read the board.  I have learned so much here.  I will let you know how I do.  It is getting close and I am getting butterflies but I can't wait to get on this road.  I'll post when I get home from Northside.  Keep in touch.  Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Linda!... and good luck with your surgery, I'm sure you will be fine.  Boy do I envy you right now, you will be slim by summer.  Hopefully I will have an approval by summer.   I have read all of the boards the VSG, RNY, Lapband etc.. and thats when I decided to go with VSG. Lap banders seem to have a lot of problems that they seem to have to try to adjust to, and then comes the removal after they have suffered for so long, then a revision, didn't want to go through surgery twice! I can hardly wait to get my VSG, my kids say I'm obsessed with this forum.  Anyway it must feel great to be on your way to the looser side....
