Hey All..
I had the surgery about 4yrs ago..and I have not been able to have the plastic surgery needed to get rid of the access skin and I really do hate it. My profession demands prefection or for thick girls like me- for us to look our best, and I really hate my scars, stretchmarks as well as the fat hanging off me since my gastro surgery....not being vain- just hate the excess around my arms, legs, belly and my breast...I wanted to know if medicare or is there a Doc here in Ga will or could take care of half the bills- and maybe my husband insurance whenever we can get that going will pay for some of it, when ever i decide to have tummy tuck and lipo done? Does anyone have any suggestions about how I can get my foot thru the door this is really frustrating...

Dr Bernette Wang Ashraf - She did my tummy tuck - removed 25 lbs of skin and fat... my tummy "was" super flat and is just flat now after having another child (ooops)

It was covered 100% by BCBS of GA... I had it done 11/2005 and the only requirement was a stable weight for 12 months and excess skin hanging over pubis area.

She is located on John's Creek Parkway in Suwanee Ga... she has a web page - look her up.

good luck!

Seriously?  Wow, I didn't know that at all!  What type of BCBS coverage did you have?  What kind of documentation did you have to submit?

I had BCBS of GA through GE it was the HMO plan.  Dr Ashraf's office will take a pic of you in your underwear and verification from your PCP saying your weights to prove that you have lost at least 100lbs and have maintained your current weight for at least 12 months.

That's it!!  Good Luck!

And the fees are...?

Inquiring minds want to know.  Somehow, in a few years, I'm going to have to figure out how to get the State insurance plan to cover plastic surgery too!  Gotta know what I'm up against.

So the SHBP doesn't cover plastic surgery at all?  Hmmm, I didn't know that.  Very interesting.  Who knows what will happen in the future though.

I'm not sure.  The UHC HMO I'm currently on does not cover.  But it is more difficult to get insurance companies to pay for plastic surgery than it is to get them to cover WLS.

Hey All,
ty so much for your replies although I am a little lost. I don't know much about Atlanta/Ga I just moved here. I don't know what BOB is-what kind of insurance is that? Sadly, what you are saying is that medicare or medicaid here in Atlanta does not cover it. We had a hospital in Shreveport La that was called LSU and it is for those of low income status...and they were willing to do the plastic surgery needed on me which are my arms, thighs, tummy, and breast lift as well as lipo for 5,500 or close to it. Is there a hospital around here similar to LSU or am I just out of luck...lol? If so as soon as I can scrape it-LSU here I come...and ty all again for your responses....
