Support Group Meetings

I have consulted with a couple of surgeons and have decided to go with William Johnson. He requires his patients to attend at least one support group meeting. I'd prefer not to trek all the way up to his office. I saw the Henry Co. meeting. Is there a list somewhere of meetings? Since all the sites say they encourage support groups it would be seem they'd be easy to find but I'm not finding that to be true! I live in PTC (South of the airport) in Fayette County. Thanks!!

HI... hey that's my doc too. Interesting that you picked a doc on the opposite end of ATL...  I know he's cute but that's quite a drive. What made you pick him???

I'm fortunate that I'm a 1/2 a mile away from office and hospital. I'm attending the support group at Johns creek emory in October.

By the way he does have a good record... not lawsuits and isn't a "doper". I had a friend do a background check... she works for attorneys..

You are right about many things!! He's cute, it's across town and he's never been sued nor isn't an addict. I look up any doctors I see on the GA license web site. There aren't many choices for bariatric docs on the Southside of Atlanta. The closest was downtown at The Atlanta Medical Center (formally GA Baptist). I visited a doctor there and in my opinion the building was a dump. The doctor also doesn't do any kind of lap. surgeries.  I like the idea that this guy is affiliated with Emory. And he's a "preferred provider" with my insurance. With gas prices so high I still think it's worth the drive. Do you????

Of course it's worth the drive if you feel comfortable with your surgeon and the facilities... it is tops in Atlanta. The hospital is better than most hotels...LOL

As far as the price of gas,well that's not the issue right now, it's the availability of gas right now... It's crazy

The one thing I would ask about is post op and what other hospitals he has privliges at... just in case you need to go in for an emergency you would want him there.... that to me would be something to discuss.

Do you have a date yet?

I asked him about emergencies etc.... If it's something life threatening I'd go here locally.  I do not have a date yet. I'm still getting all my appointments taken care of. I see their dietitian tomorrow. First I have to find some gas!!! Last night I passed about 10 stations and they were all closed. I hate driving all the way up there again tomorrow but it's worth it. When I have surgery I may just stay up there the night before. There are people outside Atlanta that travel from a few states away so I should be happy!

Did the office take care of your paperwork promptly? I have read things on here that they are flaky with paperwork.
