Hi i  want wls and want to know if anyone has had a problem getting approval with aetna hmo . And do you have to see a nutritionist  or is supervised visits from you pcp enough . I'm anxious to have the surgery and the only thing i did so far was submit the package with photo . And was recommended by Atlanta Bariactris to have it . They submitted it to Aetna and waiting to see what they require . And if anyone has any info on aetna it would be greatly appreciated .

Hi, I am also using Aetna, not an HMO, but I think their requirements are going to be about the same.  For me, they required 6 months of doctor supervised diet, I had to see the nutritionist, psyche eval, get a letter of medical necessity from my PCP, diet history, and give proof of co-morbidities.  Be prepared to jump through the hoops.  Talk to your Bariatrics office, they deal with the insurance all the time so they are usually aware of what they require.  I am working with Emory Bariatrics, my surgery is this Tuesday(YAY!!!!!!!!!), and they gave me a package that had the requirements for several of the largest insurers.
