If anyone has any information they can give me re: when the next WLS Support Group meeting is at Winn Army Medical Center in Hinesville will be, I'd be very grateful.  I called the hospital's switchboard, but nobody seems to know anything about it or who to tell me to call to find out about it.  Thanks in advance, your help is appreciated. :)

I am not much help on this, but would be interested in knowing this myself.  I have just gotten approvel for my surgery, but the doctor I have chosen is in Brunswick, it would be nice tohave a local support group...

Congrats on your approval, Dee! How exciting! Have you scheduled a surgery date yet?  If I should find anything out re: the WLS Support Group at Winn via the hospital or other way other than this forum, I'll be sure to let you know!

I had my surgery done at fort gordon just july 29th. I think they told me the next meeting is held on the 2nd tuesday of sept. I think?? not real sure. so far I am supportless. the surgeon could care a less how I am doing and nutrition is very well hard to gget ahold of. We can make our own support group......I am here in Hinesville what about you?

I have my psych and my nutritionist visit tomorrow and the required workshop on Sat and Sun, then I have to attend on Support group meeting and I am ready for surgery.  I havent scheduled yet but think it will probably be mid Sept or mid Oct, depending on when my Dr has a spot for me.  I am excited and anxious and scared and nervous all at the same time.....

I have heard that there is a support group somewhere in Hinesville, just not sure where..... I am in Hinesville myself and it would be great to get together sometime..... let me know if ya hear anything and I will do the same.

Talk to ya soon,
Dee

Dee, I'm excited for you! You're going to do just great :) Everything you're feeling is totally natural, of course - I remember feeling that way too, esp. when they were wheelin' me down the hallway towards the operating room! LOL But whatever they gave me knocked me out but good - the next thing I remember is three nurses yelling at me to wake up and take some deep breaths for them - I was REALLY relaxed, apparently! :D

sillybirdladee, how're you doing since your surgery?  I was never told by my PCM at Winn that Gordon was an option for the surgery.  I ended up at a surgeon in SC actually.  That's why I can't really make support group meetings w/my surgeon unless they coincide on a day I have a follow-up appt. or something.

I have an appt at Winn tomorrow actually.  I'm going to do some more asking around while I'm there re: the WLS Support Group and see if someone can find the info for us! I'll let you know what I find out, gals! :)

PS:  Are you both Army spouses?

I am an army spouse......I would not recommend fort gordon fopr any WLS. I have no follow up care. They could care a less if they see me in again or not.
I am doing real good though. I have lost 20lbs and hoping the scale will start moving again soon. I am in a stall. I meet with the NUT on sept 2nd...

Hey ladies :)

Just thought I'd let you know that I found out today at the hospital that the WLS Support Group is held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, so for Sept. that'd be Sept. 9th.  I don't have a time yet, but was given a phone number to call next week to find out the time.  When I get that I'll update this post, k?

Thank you Kelly.  You were right today went really well.  I was so excited after my appts were done, I really feel like this is the right decision for me.  The psych was really nice and said he thought I would be a great candidate for the surgery and the nut said she was there for me the whole journey.... she wanted to help me with my new journey and was just a phone call away.... wow... and she talked about all of the follow up appts and how we were going to work together to make sure this is a smooth transition to thin...... with military medicine for 25 years I dont know how to act when I am not a number being pushed thru the process....

Well thanks for finding out about the support group meeting, I am interested in attending.  I am out of town on the 9th however, so hopefully the oct meeting I will feel well enough to get out and about by then....
