Hello Everyone,

I know you can relate to this......I have such a long list of things I want to do before I die.  These things are things I only dreamed of doing.  Because all my life I was obese and could not physically do them.

This weekend I am going White Water Rafting.....I am soooooo excited!!!!!! At 400 lbs I would have sunk the raft!!! But now at 47 years old, I am so athletic and able to do anything physical I want to....... life is so good!!!!!

As I sit and think about all the other things that I have been able to do since WLS over 7 years ago.....little things....run and enjoy it.......dance all night long and have my boyfriend dip me all the way to the floor.......wear a bikini and feel good in it!!!  AND SO MUCH MORE!!!!!!

I encourage everyone to try new things........and dream......and make those dreams come true!!!!!!

Take care,

Ginger

Boy Ginger I can relate so well, I have done so many different things since my surgery that I'm really happy with my life. My life has changed so much that I never though that I would ever be able to do all the things that I love to do. But 2 years later LIFE IS REALLY GREAT.
Thanks for sharing!

What a wonderful post!  Before I had surgery, my NUT has us sit down and write what we wanted our life to be like if we lost all our weight.  What kinds of things would we be able to do that we couldn't, what would we be wearing, what would we look like?  These really became measurable goals that I made for myself.  Little things like:
- Fit in an airplane seat without a seatbelt extender
- Fit into size 38" pants (from 56")
- Be able to participate in life instead of watching it from the sidelines
- Not worry about where I am sleeping when we travel or the size of the restroom facilities

There were more but you get the idea.  As the weight has come off and I've increased my daily exercise and activity, I've found that I have more energy and stamina and have regained my ability to actually enjoy participating in the game of life.  That activities that were once off-limits are now no problem.  That I actually enjoy walking around the mall instead of going to one store and leaving because my back was sore or I was tired.

If you haven't gone through the exercise of "What would your life be like if you lost all the weight?" -- it's a great way to start remaking your life.  It can be anything we want it to be.  We are limited only by our own expectations.  If we expect to lose 1/2 our excess weight, we probably will.  If we expect to lose more, we just might.  If we expect to be able to do certain things -- ride a bike, ride a horse, go swimming without feeling self-conscious or getting on an airplane and not having the person next to you roll their eyes and know they are thinking "I hope that guy isn't sitting next to me!" -- dream it and it can happen!

Hi Ginger,

You look absolutely awesome!!  I hope that I will look that great when I loose all my weight.
White water rafting is something I have always wanted to do along with a lot of other things. I have been over weight the majority of my life too. You are so encouraging!

Thanks

GINGER, GREAT JOB... Prior to weight loss surgery, many of us were just going through the motions of life.  Heck, many of us could hardly move, let alone do something like white water rafting.  I think you are a great example of what life after weight loss surgery can be like. Keep up the good work.

We "Graduates, or Veterans" of weight loss surgery need to continue to encourage others to reach beyond what their lives were before surgery. With the weight off, we are able to walk farther, and join the life of the living.  Before weight loss surgery many of us just go through the motions of living.  After losing the weight we join in living life, and no longer just setting on the side lines.

I had gastric bypass 6 years ago and have lost 135 pounds.  Prior to that, I could barely walk.  I needed to have both of my knees replaced. Now at 54 I no longer need that.  In May 2008, I entered my first 5K run and came in runner up in my age group.  I received the very first Trophy I have ever received in my entire life.  What a rush... I now plan to enter another 5K, and then enter a 10K and then next year the Peachtree.

So get out there and enjoy life.  So if you have had weight loss surgery and still think you can't do something, or you are afraid to step out of our comfort zone, just do it.  I didn't enter the 5K to win it, I just wanted to fini****  So just do it.  Just embrace life and live it.
