Wow...I didn't expect tso much out of the questions - I really thank you for that, because I think you hit some points I didn't think about.
I'm very sorry for your losses, but it seems as though it made you a very strong woman!
I wish you luck in your journey. I'm going to call Patti (the coordinator) and see what we come up with! I'll let you know if I have anything else.....THANK YOU for keeping it open!

Whatever you decide, find a local support group you can participate in. Studies show that WLS patients that participate in support group meetings 12-18 months post-op are much more successful than those who go it alone. I used Emory for my surgery and they have a wonderful support group system. I believe they charge a flat rate for non-patients but it's a one-time fee.
Emory also offers a free WLS Seminar that you might want to attend to get the scoop on the various surgeries, risks/benefits and costs. I have been really happy with their overall program. It was much more comprehensive than having surgery and then returning home and having to figure out the rest on my own.
When you consider the #1 issue facing all WLS patients (regardless of surgery type) is weight regain in years 3+ post-op, the most important thing is to learn new behaviors as the weight comes off. Learning to make healthy eating choices, moving your body more as the weight comes off and dealing with emotional eating issues you might face. This is easier said than done.
I wish you well on your journey.

Hello Steph,
I too was a SELF PAY, my insurance was not going to cover anything. But I was able to get them to pay for all of my medical work ups that were required before surgery, blood test, ECEO, sleep study ECT......, I used a Doctor in ALABAMA, Dr. Bryan freeman, if you go to the ALABAMA BOARD you can click on his web site and get some infromation. I only paid just a little over 18,000.00. I really liked him because he too is a GASTRIC BYPASS PATENT, and he was only 1hr 45 mins from me.
