I am wondering how long the standard hospital stay is for VSG'ers.

Congrats on your surgery! I don't know how long your surgery stay will be for VSG, but Dr. Lin did my RNY on a Friday morning and I left Sunday afternoon. I love Dr. Lin, he is a great  surgeon. Are you in the research study?

Hi, I'm scheduled for a VSG in August with Dr. Alvarez in Mexico, and his info says two nights in his little hospital and then a third night in a hotel up in San Antonio at the airport, then fly home.  --Dorothy

Hi Dorothy, I wanted to know if I was reading your blog correctly.  Are you going to Mexico for your wight loss surgery, If so can you please tell me about your experience.

Yes, I'm going to Mexico for weight loss surgery; I'm having the vertical sleeve gastrectomy on August 7 with Dr. Guillermo Alvarez.  Everything I read, mostly on OH's sleeve forum, is very positive about him, and my pre-op experiences with his office have been excellent.  I chose him because of all the positive comments by OHers and because he charges a flat rate that covers everything except airfare into San Antonio.  (Isn't that a difference from US doctors?!?)  If you want to read a lot from folks who have used Dr. Alvarez and other Mexican doctors, check out the Vertical Sleeve forum.  Are you thinking about Mexico??  -- Dorothy

Yes, I am considering  lap band surgery.  Like many of us, my insurance will not pay for the surgery and I am having to come out of pocket for all of my expenses.  I may even have to sale my car. I have made contact with Dr. Ortiz with the Obesity Control Center in Tijuana Mexico.  Have you heard anything about his practice?  Please keep me updated with your process; in the meantime, I will look up your Doctor.

I don't believe I'd heard of Dr. Ortiz, but when I googled him, he looked outstanding.  I couldn't find his prices, though.  What does he charge for the different procedures?

He is charging $7950 for the lap band, and I really haven'i inquired about any other procedure.  Keep me updated about your adventure.

Hi, I check out your blog.  Congratulations on all of the weight loss.  I am not intereseted in the sleeve, but the lap band procedure.  My concern was the monetary portion of the procedure.  I have noted that my insurance company is not paying for the procedure which really suck.
