Lots of Questions!
Okay, take a deep breath. You'll have to walk in the hospital, usually the night of surgery. I had lap RNY and had to make a lap of the floor before I could sleep for the night. Once your catheter is out you'll be expected to get up to go to the bathroom and to walk daily in the hospital. Having the house to yourself is good, but you are going to want someone with you. Depending on the method (laproscopic or open) you'll need some help during the first week or so. Even if it's just for moral support. My doc wanted me walking as much as possible as soon as I got home. Showering is fine. You'll just want to make sure that you dry your bandages well. You'll be tired so get your shower when you feel your best. Think of an angel as a just that, a guardian angel who's there to answer your questions and support you. There are lots of people on this site that will be a shoulder to lean on. Build up your friends and email them whenever you have a question, feel a freak-out coming on, or to help settle the butterflies as you get closer to your surgery date. Good luck and email me if you have any questions or are freaking-out. (I think I emailed by buddies hourly the closer I got to my surgery date. LOL) Dana
