Is there anyone who works for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and know if there insurance coverages weight loss surgery?

Welcome to CHOA!  I've worked there for 6 years now and YES, they do (BCBS) cover RNY, but not sure about the Lap-Band.  There is also a Cigna High-Option plan but it is costly and I'm not sure if it is being covered. If you have any questions, I'll try my best!

Thanks for responding to me.  I read most of your post and you look amazing.   In your post you stated that BCBS would not pay for the Bariatric Surgery.  Did they stop and start covering the surgery again?

Thanks again,

Venessia

Yes, they did.  They stopped for awhile, but in the new benefit package as of (11/2007) which is when current employees sign up...it is now a covered benefit.  You are required initially to do a psychiatric eval, a nutritionist consult, and a recommendation from your PCP before you can submit for approval.

One last question, you probably don't know this by heart. I'm also having difficulties getting pregnant, and I will have to go through IVF, which is very, very expensive and any financial help would graciously assist left the financial burden off me and my husband. Do you know by chance if either one of the insurances plans pay for IVF treatment? I was hired as a contractor, however I really need insurance and these are some of the benefits I was hoping to get. On the other hand, maybe find a permanent job with any benefits. If you could find this out for me, I will be very appreciative. Thanks again, Venessia

Hello, CHOA does now cover gastric bypass and lap band. I recently had surgery in April. Everything went fine except  BCBS nor CHOA detailed that you have a $200 deductible and are responsible for up to $1800 worth of charges. After you pay out the $1800, then everything is covered at 100%. Please be aware of this. I have BCBS HMO and thought everything would be covered at a 100% after I paid the hospital co-payment.  I would also let you know that it took me three weeks to get approved. I hope this helps . Welcome to Choa. RR
