Georgia: Who does DS?

I am thinking of reconsidering the RNY. Can anyone tell me why the chose the surgery that they did? I am torn now that I attened a support group this past weekend!

I choose to have the VSG (6/12/08), only because It removes part of the stomach. I didnt like the idea of my unused part of my stomach still being inside. I only have to have about 4 or 5 small insions, no large cut. The healing time is much faster to. I have read that people that got the RNY done regained weight. I read that the vsg makes it harder to stretch the stomach back out. Good luck.... kj81

I had the DS and used Dr. Maynard....I ADORE him....he also preformed my hernia surgery in February as well.  I get phone calls from his office, emails....not to mention seeing them at the support group.  His office for me has been all about the patient, not just doing the surgery and then walking away.  I don't know how I could have done it without them.

If you have any questions let me know....we also have support group meetings for all of his DS patients the 3rd Thursday of each month...if you are considering DS then I would suggest coming to a meeting and just talking to people...let me know if you want more info.

I had lapband in Jan. and I couldn't be more happy! I love Peachtree Bariatric's and Dr. Rashid.  I choose lapband because of the 5 people I know personally who had  RNY, all of them have gained back weight, I didn't want anything permanently done to my body, I was concerned about the long term affects of malabsorption issues and l liked the idea of being able to have adjustments down the road if I needed them as well as have it removed if I ever needed to. I have chosen the VSG because there is no rerouting of the intenstines, so no malabsorbsion. I was leaning toward the LapBand and spent a couple of weeks on their forum which made me rethink due to the high maintance of the band. Fill, Unfil, Stuck, slip. I then read up on the VSG and hung out on the VSG forum and decided this was for me. The VSG is the stomach part of the DS, just no intestine work.
