Wt gain for long term post op >5yrs
Hello,
I'm 6 yrs post op. Wt prior to surgery 290 lowest wt 140 current wt 215. After about 3 years the weight started coming back. Now it just didn't start with out help from me. I'm back to my old habits. I'm a very successful person in all other aspects of my life just not in the wt loss department. I can't seem to stop the bleeding. I continue to be active. I play tennis at least 3 times a week and walk frequently. I don't want to go back to where I was before. I feel like a failure when it come to this. I do well for a few days. I feel hungry. I never had any problems after surgery. No foods were off limits really if done in moderation. I still can't eat the volume I used to thank God. I'm one of those people who is a stress eater...good stress, bad stress doesn't matter. I want to get this under control. Does anyone have any suggestions...all are welcome.
Thanks, M
M,
I read your post with much intrest. Indeed it is so very hard the farther out we get for several reasons.
One ,the bypassed portion of the small instestine gets more adapt at absorbing the fats and calories from what we eat, secondly the pouch is able to expand more, thus more volume.
My best advice is to go back to basics with filling your pouch with Protein first, limit your intake to three meals a day and one snack and the biggie of all.. no eating and drinking at the same time.
The other thing to think about is perhaps speaking with your Bariatric Surgeon finding out if there is a functional reason as to why you have regained the 75 lb. The last resort would be considering a new procedure called Stomaphyx , which makes the stoma smaller , going back to the days of feeling full after just few bites of food.
The old habits creep ever so slowly back .. we are all God's children afterall !
M, hang in there . I do truly understand where you are at and I can assure you are not alone. So many people just don't want to admitt to struggling post bariatric surgery and they suffer alone.
