I NEED ENCOURAGEMENT

Today marks my 5th month post op... and my hair continues to fall out by the handfuls each and everyday.  I used to have thick hair and now it's so thin and I'm scared I'm going to go bald.  Everyone says it will slow down but WHEN?  When will it slow down even just a little bit?  Do I need to start shopping for a wig now?   Is anyone else going through this?  Has anyone gone bald from wls?  Please help me!  I'm a nervous wreck! Thanks, Judy

Hello Judy,  I'm sorry about your hair  But I never lost any of mine. You might want to try taking some ZINC and some kind of vitamins for your hair. This might help! I have many others in my support group that ask this question and I have been told that it will slow down and you will start seeing regrowth. So just hang in.

You're very lucky you didn't lose any hair! I'm freaking out... as I feel that I'm going to go bald!  I am taking Biotin ... not sure what else to take!  At this point I'm willing to try anything!  When will it start slowing down?  I had surgery in Sep 07 and the hairloss started at about the 3rd month and is getting worse each and everyday.  Yesterday was my 5th month post-op... I'm hoping the hairloss stops soon.  I'm really worrying myself to death over this!   I appreciate you helping me.   Thanks, Judy

Hello Judy,  Are you taking all of the vitamins that the Doctor says that you have to take, and are you really trying to get all of your protien in everyday. Remember that we now have to have 80+ grams of protien a day. I know that sometime it is really hard to get it all in but trust me it really helps. If it does not slow down soon I would talk to a Dirm. and see what they say about it. Keep me posted and I hope that it gets better really soon.  Hug's Jeannie

Dearest Judy, I believe, you are experciencing what we all have had happen to us in the beginning of our WLS. Seems like, my hair loss started, about 3 mos post. I have had hair loss several times, each of which came after  some of my surgeries.I believe, you should talk with your GBS  and have some blood work done to ck. for any defiencies which might have develpoed since your WLS. This does happen. Don't be discouraged! Hairloss, is a small price to pay for better health, feeling better and knowing your look better and will have a greater quality of life! I had really long and thick blonde hair before surgery and lost a lot of it as well. I was told that it was because I was not getting enough protein each day. When I did take in more protein it did help and I stopped losing so much but it never grew back  like it was before surgery.  Try to get in your required amount of protein each day and hopefully that will help.
