Hi, Kay, I'm just beginning my journey (I have a date for 3/6/08!) but I like to be forward thinking and proactive.  I too am on UHC.  Are you just starting your search for reconstructive surgery?  Will United cover it?  If you have been approved, what obstacles have you overcome?  Thanks for your insight! Well right now I’m  just beginning my search  and I have to find a someone in network I don’t have out of network coverage, I’m finding it kind of of difficult to someone in Network that I’m comfort table with. I  was told by United they weren’t showing that as a covered or non covered benefit/ They said the surgeon that I do see would need to send them a pre-certification, I guess it would be like the same process I did for my gastric. But I heard a lot of good things so far about United they said they most likely approve them they don’t give you a hard time. I found a another surgeon he’s in Duluth I will be seeing next week If I’m comfortable with him and I like him I will let his office send out the pre-certification  and I will know a few weeks later if I’m approve. I’ll let you know. Good luck with your surgery you’ll soon be at the looser bench you must be exited.  Kay.

2/13/08 Hi Lantor, Did it take you a long time for get approved for your WLS surgery with United Health Care? My paperwork was submitted on 1/18/08 and I have not heard anything from them as of yet. I did call on Monday and they told me that it was in the second level of review. Does that seem right? YOu know that I am very axious and nervous, which make s me think what is taking them so long. Am I wrong for feeling this way are do they take 30 days for approval like they say? Please let me know, there ae days when I am not encourage. Etoria

Hi Kay,  My plastic surgeon was Dr. Marissa Lawrence....I tease and say I am body by Lawrence.  I have had everything done......and I got it covered by insurance.  I was only approved for a tummy tuck and hernia repair.  So, I decided to write the insurance commissioner (John Oxendine) a letter everyday for 30 days.  He put an agent on my case and 3 days later I was approved for everything.   Dr. Lawrence is a very caring person and her work is awesome.  She is like an artist.  Her number is 404-303-7004, she is located near Northside Hospital in Atlanta.  You can check out some of her work by going on line to www.cosmeticsurgery.cc Good luck,  Ginger
