Hi, I live in south Georgia, and I have decided to have WLS.  I will be going to a seminar Feb 16th in Atlanta.  That's as far as Iv'e gotten.  I have Medicare.  How long is this process, from the time I go to the seminar to my actual surgery?

First, Congrats on making such a difficult decision.

Second, the process is totally different for each Surgeon and for each patient.  Some folks breeze from seminar to surgery in 3 months, some can take 6-12 months.  It may all depend on what all your surgeon wants you to do, or have prior to surgery, such as medical clearances, seminars, weight loss documentation.  It can be a long process, but it is so woth it.

Good Luck

Hi,  I'm new too.  I just had my consultation with Dr Macik this Tuesday and now will start the hoop jumping that Cigna requires.

Hey! Not sure where Boston is, but we're in Columbus and also choose to go to Atlanta. We used Dr. Duncan's office. We had surgery Jan. 14th (my husband and I both had lap band done the same day) and highly recommend them. We began in July 2007 when we went to his seminar. We didn't get our insurance clearance until right before Christmas, but everything happened fast after that. What really held us up with the stupid nutritionist....nearly 3 months. The time really depends on how long it takes you to get all the clearances and approval from your insurance company. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
