Which Doc? Angstadt or Whipple??
So glad you got to meet with Dr. Whipple. I am curious why you did not use doctors in Brunswick and chose to go to Savannah. Did you meet Jodi while you were in the office? She is really great and does most of the fills. I have another fill scheduled for this Thursday. I have appreciated everything these doctors have done and have been very appreciative of all there cautionary efforts and "rules." Some people have not been so fortunate.
Hi, I chose Savannah mostly because we have a good friend who is a doc at Memorial and when Dr. Whipple was a resident my friend was one of his teachers. He told us that he would trust either of these surgeons with his family or himself. Good recommendation I would say.
The docs her in Bwk are really good too, but along with the support from my friend, I am saving over $6000 to do the surgery in Savannah. Since I am private pay that is a big "chunk a change"
I go for my pre-op classes on Tuesday ( and the exercise class in the am). On my way!!
Brunswick was going to be about $20,000 total, and Savannah about $14,000. If I was not happy with the surgeon or facility it would not matter how much I was saving. The docs in Bwk are very good, and they have a very nice office, and good people there. They are a private practice and Savannah is a hospital program which is what (I think) is the big difference.
Congratulations on your decision to have surgery. I looked into the center in Brusnwick when I first started because at that time it was not yet offered in Savannah. I was not impressed with Brunswick though so I dropped it. Later after researching the surgery on line I found out it was now offered in Savannah at Memorial The whole baratric team at Memorial is great. I have not been one of the best success stories but that is not their fault but rather mine. I had the surgery for the wrong reason and gave up trying when my "reward" did not happen. If this does not make sense you can read my profile and will understand more. Dr W was not at Memorial when I had my surgery because I was one of the first 50 patients. Dr A was though and he was great! I am not sure what staff is there now but Jody and Stephanie were wonderful. Memorial has an annual dinner/dance each summer for patients and it's fun to dress up, attend, and see the "new" everyone. All medical issues related to surgery are handled promptly and they are very serious about every thing they do.
The support meetings are required before surgery and if you attend afterwards too it can really help with your success. I do have to admit though some meetings are a bit dry and boring depending on the speaker and topic. The rooms at that time were on the 4th floor and there was only 4 designed for WLS patients but they were nice. The staff was great. I am not sure if a nurse that worked that area is still there or not but she was also a WLS patient at Memorial and she was really great.
Best wishes and if you have any questions feel free to ask.
