Which Doc? Angstadt or Whipple??

I am going to have to choose a surgeon, and other than getting a recommendation that they are both great doctors, I don't know much about them If anyone has used either of them --- or if you can tell me anything about their personalities, I would be very grateful. Thanx a million Patt

I don't have experience with either one.  Sorry.  I was wondering, tho, if they still require that you take the six month course taught by their nurse before surgery...?

Hi there! Well, yes and no.  They do have classes you must attend, but they do not last 6 months. At the informational session, there was a question about how long it could take before a surgery could be scheduled and the answer was: most of the time the delay is due to making sure the individual's insurance requirements are met, but for a private pay patient it could be scheduled as early as three weeks.  Of course all the pre-requisites would have to be done. (psych eval, support group sessions, etc.) Did they actually require a six month class???  How long ago was that? Patt

Dr. Whipple!!!! I continue to drive 2 hours to use him! He is much more personable and very protective of his patients in the hospital. A friend of mine used hime for by pass and has had complications and he has been very supportive. He did my banding and I believe he is one of the greatest!

UPDATE I met with Dr. Whipple, and I am full of confidence with him.  He is definately my pick.   I am sure his partner is wonderful too, but I really like Dr. Whipple and feel no need to meet with Dr. A. now. Thanx

Dr Angstadt did my band yesterday! He did my Mom's by-pass 3 years ago. Dr. Whipple does all the EGD's prior to surg. You can't go wrong with either one. They are the bast around. They are very personable and friendly.

Congratulations, and how are you feeling today?  Are you home already??? it is only 8:30 am! I would love an update.  How was the hospital?  What was your room like?  OOPS, you are probably tired.  But sometime soon I would love to hear about everything. I certainly agree that I cannot go wrong with Memorial Bariatrics! PS  were you at the support group on Wed. night???

I'm still in the Hospital, but I will go home later this morning. The room is nice, everyone here is wonderful. Just enough attention, there when you need them, but not hovering. The most important thing is to take it easy...............but get up and move! Everytime I walk the hall I feel a little bit better. I have asked for pain meds sparingly and so far I feel more sore than in pain. I wasn't at the meeting this past Wed. I teach school and we had parent/teacher conferences, but I was at the January 3rd wed. meeting. I plan to be at the mtg this coming Wed. I'm optimistic that I will be back to school Tuesday, but I will let my body decide that morning.

So glad to hear you are doing well.  Sounds like a good idea to play it by ear re: going back to work...especially when there are kids involved LOL. I have to come to Savannah on Tuesday for my pre surgery and my exercise class, so I know I will not be at the Wed meeting.   Thanks for giving me all the cool info.  I hope to be following in your footsteps real soon!   Keep me posted!!
