Newbie -- sort of

I first found OH and this forum over two years ago -- it's where I learned about lapband. I popped in and out for awhile and then went away, came back this summer, went away again.  I've been through two insurance companies and discovered that both excluded all types of WLS from their policies, so I got very discouraged. Meanwhile, I continued to gain weight, of course. Finally I decided it was TIME, that I was tired of being miserable and I wanted to take charge and take care of myself. I have lapband surgery scheduled for 2/15/08 with Dr. Ariel Ortiz in Mexico. Like a lot of people I was skeptical of getting surgery in Mexico, but I have done lots of research and I am very comfortable with this decision.  I am nervous but I would be nervous regardless! I was wondering if there were any other Georgians who had surgery with Dr. Ortiz. I am located in Douglasville.

I can't really comment on the doctor or having surgery in mexico but I just wanted to say welcome to the board.

Congratulations on your decision! If you are close to Roswell georgia there is a Fill center there. The nurse there has a sister that had lapband in Mexico. I wish I could remember her name but I cant. She was at the conference in atlanta this year. She is very good and I was scared of the fill centers til she talked about them. They sound like a pretty good place to get fills.

Can't speak about having surgery in Mexico, but I am also new to OH and live in Douglasville.  I am having gastric bypass, insurance has approved but do not have a surgery date yet.
