Well, Let me begin by intruducing myself. I'm Julie and recently diagnosed with Polysistic Ovarian Syndrome. Basically the short version is that I produce too much insulin, and don't get rid of any of it, have high testosterone levels which all in all I gain weight but don't lose it very easily. I basically had no idea I had this until I stopped birth control and my monthly cycle never returned. Plus the fact even if I cut back on foods I gained and gained and gained wieght. It literally felt like I would wake up in the morning and have gained 10 pounds. In the four years that I have been married I think i've gained about 60-70 pounds.
So now that i've discovered PCOS and the reason all these chages have occured, I now see an endocrinologist. My next appointment with her to check my insulin levels is Nov 27th. Maybe the metaformin has helped it go down, maybe not. It hasn't helped me to lose any wieght. In fact I think Ive stayed right the same or maybe gained a pound or two. And this is with cutting most carbs. Truth is I have come off the path of non carb foods a few times, but I still should have lost at lease a pound or two in the 3 months that I worked really hard.
I am starting to get really discouraged and kind of depressed. Its not easy being put on diets since being around 9 or 10. Its even harder now that my husbands company is being really slow about seeing if they will add the Lap Band Procedure to the insurance. HR basically lied to him today saying that the Dr had to be the one to add to the insurance when in fact I know different because I work for a dr's office. So all in all she basically did not call BCBS and made that all up. So it looks like it will be another year before I can even consider Lap Band as an alternative.
But I'll stop going on and on. I'm going to keep praying that maybe in the year that I am waiting that I can lose some wieght and help the symptoms of PCOS and that eventually Lap Band will be added to our plan.
Thank you for listening.

Hi Julie,
I am Gina, almost 7 years post op RNY. I didn't have PCOS, but I was morbidly obese. I can relate to your frustration with the dieting, and having the patience to wait it out another year for surgery.
In the meantime, I want to make a suggestion to you.. as a support group leader in Macon, I welcome all to my group, pre ops, post ops, lap banders, people who are dieting and not interested in surgery but need support as they diet, and people like you, who want surgery, and have to be patient with insurance companies and policies, and trying to lose some weight in the waiting time. I suggest that you find a support group near you.. and join that group.. you will gain valuable information that will help you as you diet without surgery, and also help to keep you accountable. You will also gain some valuable information , should you have surgery, that will make the journey go smoother for you. But most of all, you will make valuable friendships and bonds, and those are for a lifetime.
Best of luck to you, and if I can do anything, please contact me.
