Hello everyone! I had gastric bypass about 5 years ago. I did have tons of problems and was in the hospital for 2 weeks with being in bed at home for 8 more. my problem is I have gained alot of my weight back. I look back to what I went through and can not understand why I allowed this to happen. I want to ask anyone that has gained the weight back what have you done to loose the weight again.is this possible? I love ths web site, I was on it everyday until my surgery and then after the problems I didn't want to do it anymore. However it is like going back to church after a couple of years...thanks in advance for any information that I could use to loose weight again and not feel like a failure. Thanks Mekomeko

Hi,   I am almost 7 years out, originally lost 220 pounds, and have had some regain.. not all my lost weight, though. You can relose what you gained.. it will take a lot of effort , and discipline on your part. You will have to go back to basics.. protein first, low carb veggies next, and if you need more substance, then some good carbs.. I would suggest that you start by adding exercise to your daily routine.. make it a habit.. at least 30 min a day, make sure you stay hydrated.. pure unadulterated water.. at least 64 oz daily, at least 90 gms of protein if you are a RNY patient.. I get my protein in by drinking protein shakes.. I am a very distal RNY so I drink 5 shakes a day, and since I have restarted this regimen, along with the water, and taking  all my vitamins, etc.. I have dropped about 5 pounds in the past week.. Also, make sure you don't drink with your meals.. this is very important in relosing weight that you regained..  Take care and good luck..

Mekomeko- I am only 2 and a half weeks out so I don't have any personal experience regarding your question.  However, I was wondering if you ever attend(ed) the weekly support group meetings on Tuesdays at Lanier Park Hospital for Dr. Richard's patients.  If not, maybe they could be useful in getting you back on track.  Just a thought.  Good luck and take care! -Meredith

Hello Mekomeko,  Gina is right, you can lose the weight you have re-gained.  I am 6 1/2 years out.  Last year I was in a car accident and could not exercise like I was.  I did put on some weight.  Now I am back exercising and watching what I am eating.  I have lost 22 lbs in the last 2 months.   I do not eat bread, rice, potatoes, pasta or sugar and have not had it since my surgery.  I think this has helped me not put on more weight than I did.  I am eating lean protein, and vegies.  I think sometimes we do not realize that we are taking liquid calories and they do count.  I think some people do not understand when having gastric by pass......we CAN gain weight.....it is not a magic pill.......if we do not exercise and eat healthy.......learn good healthy habits......we will put weight on.......the surgery is only a tool to help us get the weight off and if we do not use the tool we will be back in the same boat we were in.......we as obese people will have to fight this battle the rest of our lives......luckily we have the "tool" to assist us........we just need to learn to use it.  It is so important for us to find a support group and attend regularly.  Also sometimes we need to seek counseling and if this is the case, there is nothing wrong with that.   I hope this does not sound harsh....I am not meaning it that way.    You can do this....you can lose the weight again.....you can do anything you put your mind to.   Take care,  Ginger

Thank you for the advice....and you are right I will need to watch what I eat and get physical asing. It helps to know that I can still loose the weight again. Thanks Again for all of the responses. I do not attend support groups as I live about 60 miles to the nearest one and it is hard to get dow there. thanks Gina

Gina,   Where do you live? I am in Macon, and lead a support group on the second Monday of each month, a bit later than most, starting at 7:30 pm.    I know that Ginger also leads a support group up in the Roswell area.   Jeannie leads a support group the 4th Tuesday of each month down in Stockbridge..    There are support groups all over Georgia.. just tell us where you are located and we should be able to help you find a support group being held near you. Take care and good luck on your efforts to lose the regain.. I am right there with you.

peachy hugs,

Tammi, This message is for you! You are saying you want a Christmas Miracle, Is this correct? If you want a baby, Please just put your request in your Bible and ask God for the Miracle you desire. If you remember he tells us that what soever we desire to ask. I am living proof of this! A childless couple asked me to pray for their infertility problem several months ago. Their precious child is due Feb. 26th, 2008. I can relate to your desire of wanting a child. God is so good and will fulfill your  requests. Romans 8:28,  John 14 13-14, John 15:16, John 16:23 Enough said? I am a true believer in Jesus Christ and know he can,  and will do  whatever you Pray to receive. Prayers and Love, Nenna [email protected]
