What is your best advice for someone that is 30 days pre-op?
I am trying to lose weight the old fashioned way, as suggested by my doctor. I am trying to eat slowly and chew my food. I have tried the protein drinks (yuck). I am trying exercise and I have stopped using carbonated beverages. and am trying to stop drinking "sweet tea". What other advice can you give me from those of you that have been there and done that. I anxiously await your response. I am having gastric sleeve.
There are lots of different protein drinks but if that really isn't your thing what I did was to increase my protein. If I needed a snack I reached for something protein. My meals were mostly protein. Not only does it fill you up faster, it keeps you full longer and helps to aid with post op healing. Also lots and lots of water. Crystal light is good too. Good luck.

Hello their, I have to say that everything MS Pat said I have to add a big DITTO to it. It is not an easy road to have wt loss before surgery but you can do it. Hec if I can anyone can haha.....simply get rid of anything in your home that is bad .......dont let it back in and you will be fine. Remember Protein, is the way to go.....Hope this helps you.....Renee

Hi! I'll be having the sleeve done with Dr. Smith at the end of November. I'm sure you are trying to follow all of Dee's rules just as I am. I can't give you advice about the surgery because I am a newbie, but I can tell you what has really helped me. First, come to this site often. I have been reading posts 3-4 times a day and the support is amazing. I started swimming at the YMCA which has been good for me. No sweating, huffing and puffing, and best of all I can have 30 minutes alone to just think. The most important advice I have gotten from another VSGer on this site has been to take the next few weeks before surgery to really examine my eating issues and the feelings that might arise when I am faced with dealing with the head hunger. I am the first person to say I am large because I am hungry all the time. When I took the other VSGers advice and just started to think about my life and eating I realized it went deeper than that. She told me as long as I went into this knowing the issue will come up I will stroll right through them. I hope this advice can help you like it helped me. I feel so much more confident in the path I'm on.
