Heart issues and surgery question
My husband was required to have a stress test because he's over 40 as part of the clearance for lap band surgery. The cardiologist said he wants him to have a heart cath because of an abnormal result in one are of the test. He thinks it's a false positive, but just wants to be sure. He has no symptoms and is really pretty health. I was just wondering if worse case he does have to blocked artery and the Dr. unblocks it, does that rule him out for lap-bad? It's all happened really fast so we haven't had a chance to ask the Dr.'s so I thought I see if anyone had any experience in this area.
Thanks,
Shelly
Shelly,
I had to have a heart cath before my gastric bypass and the cardiologist that did it told me that if I had needed an angioplasty to open any blockages that it would have delayed my surgery about 6 months or so. Now that was for Gastric bypass. I don't know about lap band but I am sure they will want to allow time in between to make sure his cardiac condition is stable. It should not keep him from having lap band at all just may delay it a little bit. The only way to know for sure will be to ask the cardiologist and the surgeon. Hang in there!
