Hi Georgia Peeps!

Hi all!  It is so exciting to be around Georgia peeps that have either had RNY or are going to have WLS. I don't feel so alone!  A lot of my family is very apprehensive about the whole thing, and while I am nervous, I am also very hopeful.  I need, no..I have to  take back my life.  I, like most of you, have tried every diet...I cannot seem to drop a significant amount of weight..its a vicious cycle for me.  I go on a diet, I drop about 15lbs..go on a plateau, get discouraged and fail.  I want to stop failing.  So..even though I am waiting on approval for surgery, I am back on Weigh****chers trying to lose again and back to walking & doing yoga. I am back up to 309lbs again, and I'm sorry, thats just not acceptable for me.  I hate this fight...I have been fighting since I was 10 years old.  Just this once, I want to be normal weight.  Anyways, rant over...just excited to meet you all and find some WLS friends.

I've been doing the "diet" thing since I was a child also...it stinks... My family was pretty apprehensive about the surgery but I talked my mom into coming with me to the WLS confrence 8Sept here in  Atlanta and she feels ALOT better about it know.  No one really likes to think about a loved one under going surgery but with education we can help ease the worry a bit.   My mom enjoyed the confrence so much that she has been inspired to work on dropping some excess weight herself!  She will do it with a healthy diet and exercise but she doesn't have nearly as much to lose as I do.   I guess what I'm saying is...educate them and show them how dedicated you are to changing your life and making youself more healthy and with luck they will be more supportive! In the mean time...we are here for you!

Hey Annmarie!  Just wanted to say hi and welcome!  Lets hear more about you!  What doc/hospital are you using?  I'm a bit over 2 years out.  ---Had RNY on May 23, 2005, weighing at my highest weight just prior to that (278).  The day before my 2 year out anniversary, I gave birth to a beautiful son----(already have two beautiful daughters!)  When I found out I was pregnant 10-2-06(um.....let me preface this by saying that soonafter wls, I divorced my husband of 12 1/2 years--  and had been shacking up with my boyfriend for over a year :O)I was 8 weeks pregnant---  had lost from 278 to about 147. I had thought I was going thru menopause----NOT!  Dan and I were married on November 20, 2006 and Brendan was born on May 22 via c-section, after a fairly uneventful pregnancy.  I gained about 16 pounds with my pregnancy-  Brendan weighed 6.15 (abby, my 10 year old weighed 9.1 3 weeks early and alli, my 6 year old weighed 8.12 a month early)  He was tiny----but PERFECT.  I'm down to about 130 now.  Still see myself as fat---(the mind is so strong) although I wear a 6/7.  Last visit to the doc, they actually wanted me to GAIN weight---and FAT!  Never has that happened before!  email me sometime....we'll talk. Your journey will be awesome!  Good luck! Lisa Rhodes

Hi.  I will be using Dr Dan Procter with the Obesity Solutions team and will go into Northeast GA Medical Center.  I have heard great things about him, and the informational meeting they had was just...well...great!  I felt like I was walking into home when I came into the room.  Even though I was younger than most everybody else, we all had the same issue, and it felt like family. I am still waiting to jump through the hoops to make sure I have the surgery, but I am so excited and well..scared at the same time.  I guess thats normal.  I have just been trying to continue to eat healthy and exercise...though I fall off of it quite a bit.  Quite a bit!  Thats why this interested me so much.  I know its not a quick fix...there isn't one...we would ALL have found it by now, but it gives me what I have always thought I needed, a tool to make me feel full on so much less than I currently exist on. A question though...I am currently reading a book called Skinny B***ches and it is really making me want to become a vegan.  CAn you do that after WLS?  Lets say I want to be a vegan after surgery, is that a viable option?  Would I get enough nutrition...ya think?

Welcome! We might be a quiet group on here but I have been around a couple on here and we aint quiet when we get together. I have never seen people have more fun than WLS people. I think we truly enjoy life now. Ask Renee Phyllis

I have tried the vegan diet for a while after my hubby read a book about how it helped diabetes.  Not only is it VERY hard to follow, expensive and by golly, not that tasty---it didn't work for neither my husbands blood sugar level NOR my diet.  I was quite happy when we went back to "regular" food....praise god, no more soy milk or almond milk or TVP or tofu.  I like all of that to a certain extent----maybe once a month or so----but in order to get the protein I need----OMG that is a LOT of SOY!!!  Grilled soy, soy shakes, broiled soy,  "chicken" soy salad, soy milk, soy burgers UGHHHHH!!!  talk to your doctor before trying the vegan diet.  Your health is most important.
