Fort Stewart Area

Looking  for anyone in the  Fort Stewart Area  who has had or is having WLS???

I really want to and live in Hinesville, does that count?  It's frustrating, because I can't seem to find out the secret code word for getting medicaid/wellcare to tell me their process for getting approved. From what I've found out, it seems only a few people in Georgia take medicaid, and none of them are anywhere near here.  I'm worried about whether having the surgery in Atlanta would mean having to haul my butt on an eight hour round trip for mandatory support group meetings...  But then again, I do always seem to borrow trouble.  I need to remind myself, "Sufficient onto the day the evil thereof."

Im in Brunswick and we have a support group here that is wonderful and Savannah has one too. If you know where Collins is ..they have a great one also. I'm not sure my doctor take the medicaid/wellcare but you could surely call and find out..the office staff is wonderful. I think the savannah group might be able to help also. Can you go to a support group if you didn't go to that surgeon?  Are there fees for the support group?  I don't mean to poor-mouth, but as a single parent on a fixed income (and a college student, no less!), the bottom line is pretty important.  I just want to decrease my bottom's line! ;)

Yes and no..you can go to any support group. Our support group is at the hospital here and is supported more by them than the surgeons..if though one of the surgeons is chief of staff in the bariatric dept.  There are no fees for the support groups. You can attend the support groups before and after surgery.  The seminars and workshops before surgery are done by the physicians and are not the actual support groups and they somtimes cost something for the workshops but most times do not cost for the seminars. I know with Wellcare you have to be on a supervised diet for 1 year before you can have the surgery.  I would suggest switching to Peachstate I did not have to wait to be approved.  I had my surgery though Emory Crawford Long hospital only problem  with that there was a year waiting list because they only take so many medicad patients a year but this was choice I could have choosen a different doctor and not waited.  This gave me time to prepare myself for the changes.  I would think of changing plans.  I am not sure about Ameriplan at all.  I wish you the best of luck in you quest.  I am very happy with my decision to have it.   Alicia

Is Peachstate new?  They only had Amerigroup and Wellcare on the forms I got, and my doctor said Wellcare was the better of the two.

I am in Brunswick Georgia. We have 2 wonderful Doctors here. I know in Savannah they have a great support group as well as us. I will be glad to get you some information if you need it..just PM me. Phyllis

We have a support group  in Fort Stewart that meets on post. I was  hoping to  connect with some of therm here.  And I know that University Hospital ( I think is the name of it )  in Savannah has a support group as well.  Not sure what there requirements  are.
