Hey everyone.  This is my first post on the board.  I have an appointment with Charles R Finley on Monday.  I was wondering if anyone has had him as a doctor.  If so, what are your impressions, pros, cons, etc.  I look forward to getting started on my journey.

Hmmmmm... there's only one review on him and he's not registered on OH. How did you come across him?  Becky

My sister found him while doing research for bariatric surgeons in our area.   We went to an informational meeting and found that the surgeon holding the meeting had only done 3 surgeries.  While we really liked the surgeon, we wanted someone with more experience.  Finley had done over 800 lap band surgeries, with over 200 of them being done this year.    I was just wondering if anyone on the site had had any dealings with him. Hi.. Dr. Finley is going to do my surgery.(pending insurance approval) I really liked him. I am going to be getting the "Sleeve". Dr. Finley has only been doing them for 8 months. I started out wanting the band but I have heard negative things about it so I changed my mind and opted for the Sleeve.I wish you luck on your  journey.

Hi, what is the sleeve.  I haven't heard of it.  How is it different than the band--and how much difference between the sleeve and the band.  Just wondering.

Vertical Gastrectomy (also called vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, Greater Curvature Gastrectomy, Parietal Gastrectomy, Gastric Reduction and even Vertical Gastroplasty) is performed by approximately 15 surgeons worldwide. The originally procedure, conceived by Dr. D Johnston in England, was called The Magenstrasse and Mill Operation. It generates rapid weight loss by restricting the amount of food that can be eaten (removal of stomach or vertical gastrectomy) without any bypass of the intestines or malabsorption. The stomach pouch is usually made smaller than the pouch used in the Duodenal Switch.  Click on the link below. they will tell you everything you need to know. Didn't Dr. Finley mention it to you? http://www.obesityhelp.com/content/wlsurgery.html#VSG

I haven't actually seen Dr. Finley yet.   My appointment is Monday with him.   I'm sure he will go over all of my options with me then.  I will be paying for this out of pocket, so I wonder what the cost of the VG is???  Do you know? Thanks for writing back. S
