Moving Fast, is it too good to be true?

Hello!  I just started this process. I've thought about this for a while but didn't know my insurance would cover it until 2 weeks ago. I have pretty well decided and committed to having surgery.  I'm a huge person on research and have spent hours reading the book the doctor recommends and searching on the Internet.   I made an appt with Dr. Blaney in Augusta for 8/8.  I asked at the time for an earlier appt if someone cancelled and well they did and so now I get to go tomorrow (7/18).  I also managed to get in to the psych and nutrionist office for Friday of this week.  I went to my PCP yesterday and he gave me a letter with my weight and medical history to give to Dr. Blaney.  My previous doctor in Kansas is faxing my history tomorrow .  I also already have my gym membership and fitness class information being sent this week. By Monday, I think he'll have everything to submit an initial pre-certification to BCBS Federal.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for a quick approval. Wish me luck! Laurel

I notice you just recently had the band.  How are things going?  Having any regrets?  What has been the worst thing?  Are you hungry? tired?  Fill me in! Thanks, Laurel

I had the lap band 4 weeks ago tomorrow. Went back to work 5 days later. I am a restaurant manager/waitress/nurse. The first 2 weeks I was tired, I'd take a short nap when I got home everyday and went to bed at 9:30. I have had no problems, My incisions (6) healed really fast. I sleep on my left side and that was difficult till I started sleeping with a pillow under my tummy and between my legs. My only soreness was where the port is, and that's because there were 2 internal stitches to hold it in place there. I took 2 tylenol once I came home but nothing stronger. I lost 14# in 2 weeks and was so excited. I have lost 22 so far and my band isn't filled yet. My Doc likes to wait till around six weeks, but mine will be in 5 weeks post op because he will be out of town my sixth. I am down a size in my jeans. I was hungry the 2nd week, my stomach growled all the time,i went to bed early alot of nights just so I wouldn't eat. Doc likes for you to eat at certain times every day and that helps now to tide me over till the next meal. I didn't mind the protein shakes because they stayed with me longer. NO REGRETS!

Hey, Laurel: Just another little note to assuer you that you will LOVE Dr. B.  On the 8th of August, I'll be two months out with the lap RNY.  Are you having that procedure, or did you choose the band?   Let me know if I can be of any assistance. Luck has NOTHING to do with it, girl! Ingrid

I went in with the intention of getting the lap band and he did not argue with me.  From everything I've read and all I think I would prefer the band.    I went to Dr. Stapleton and Bryn Hamilton today.  Good god, I did not know I was nervous about that.  I usually know without a doubt that I'm nervous about something, but didn't know until I got there.  I felt like an idiot.  I was crying on the couch before we even introduced ourselves! HAHA!  Honestly, I have no idea where it came from.  I don't cry very often (maybe 2-3 times a year, mostly when watching heartbreakin movies!)  I can just see the report now!  Oh well. I don't know how much that has to do with approval.  I think the point is just to give added support. On another note, I felt kind of weird talking to Bryn.  She was very nice and informative, but hearing she was on the lap band for 2 years... made me feel guilty for wanting the band.  I'm probably within 20 pounds of her.  I don't know her story so I assume she has lost a great deal of weight, but it was weird.  I wish I didn't think about that stuff, but I guess I'm vain. Thanks for the note.  I posted a comment on your one picture. I'd like to do the climbing stuff some time.  Is there a place that does that locally? Laurel

Laurel, Just remember each of us are different and we lose at different rates.  Don't let it bother you.  Please call me when you get back in town I would love to talk to you.   BTW what grade do you teach.  I'm an aide in the ED room..... Susan

Things went well with Dr. B. I need to call him tomorrow because I think he may have everything he needs to submit my case to insurance. Both my primary cares have sent letters supporting it and I saw Dr. Stapleton and Bryn. I think Bryn is out of town so he might now have her report yet, but I don't think my insurance requires the nutritionist report, so who knows. I've been in Louisiana for the past few days. I'm finishing an online degree this semester and had to go defend my thesis.  It was stressful, a 12 hour long road trip each way and temptations galore being in New Orleans. I could  easily been tempted to eat my self silly (cajun fried food, yum yum) or drink enough calories in dacquiris, but I was amazingly good and even lost a pound over the 3 days....an unheard of thing for me, someone who travels while grazing.           Thanks for checking on me!  How are you doing?
