New and Curious...
I've been doing some research regarding WLS. I'm particularly interested in the lap band procedure; however, it seems that everyone that has WLS has to follow some sort of diet or eating plan for the rest of their lives. If you end up dieting anyway, what is the benefit of surgery? How does the surgery make it easier? Is it because you might get sick if you overeat? I'm really looking for some honest feedback. I've been 100 pounds overweight for 17 years. The most I've ever lost is 60 pounds and I regained that within a year and a half, so please share with me why WLS made the difference for you.
Thanks
Janet
Wow, your post could have been written from me! I have an appointment scheduled for 8/8 with the doc and am going to a seminar next Wednesday. I've been overweight for about 17 years, but not 100 pounds the entire time. I've never lost more than 25 pounds when seriously dieting and it always comes back instantly.
After reading all the info from the doctor and reading the book Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies, I'm wondering the same things as you; Are you still hungry? Do you have energy? can you eat a small real meal 4 months out? 6 months out? ever? By real meal, I mean small amount of meat and veggie. How often do you get sick?
I want to do it. Years ago I looked in to it and I didn't weigh enough. I'm still borderline at my current weight I'm 39.5. Before my doc appointment on the 8th I'm going to drink a bunch of water before the appointment and wear heavy clothes. I really don't want to put on additional pounds and truthfully, I'm motivated to walk and have been but may stop that temporarily until I get approval from insurance.
I hope someone responds to your question as I am curious about the same things.
