Question about selfpay
Ok, I have a quick question for the "insurance wise" out there...
I have found a doctor willing to do the surgery for $2,000 (that's only his fee, not the hospital or anesthesiologist), which is $3,000 less then he usually charges his patients. And he is not in Georgia, but Tennessee. Is there a chance that my insurance (BCBS Ga POS) would pay for the hospital and anesthesia if I pick up the doctor's payment? I have already been told by the insurance company that they wouldn't cover the cost of surgery, does that mean the stuff that goes along with it too? I don't know squat about insurance companies, as you can tell. I was hoping that one or more of you out there would know or would know who I could talk to.
Thanks to all!
Michelle
I don't know anything about insurance companies either, but common sense tells me that if that was all they wouldn't pay for (the doctor) they would tell you about that option. A few years ago medicaid would only pay for the open RNY and I tried to see if I could pay the difference to convert it to Lap. NO WAY was their reply. Good luck.

Your insurance will most likely not pay for any of it since they do not pay for the surgery. I am a self payer too and was going to have RNY w/ another opeation this summer thinking that it would reduce my costs. The hospital said that was a flat fee regardless of whatever else I may be in the hospital recovering from. Good Luck.
