Pre-OP question
Ten days I will have RNY surgery. I'm so excited... I would like to hear from you all is 1.) What did you wish you purchased before going to the hospital to have at home when you rtn. home? 2.) What did you wish you knew before going in for surgery? 3.) What did you wish you took to the hospital. I've printed the pre-op list and Hospital list from this site. But, was wondering these 3 questions......to see if I need anything else. Thanks, Sandra

Hye Sandra,
It is coming up fast, isn't it?
The thing I wished I had done was make sure my refridgerator items were on a shelf I could reach without bending over. OUCH. That goes for my clothing I needed the first couple of weeks at home. No bottom dresser drawers for me. The things I was most glad I took to the hospital were my cell phone (I didn't have to try to remember any phone numbers), my hugga pillow, and a cd player with headphones. I also took a hair tie that I used to hold my cd player to the bedrail so it wouldn't fall and stayed within my reach. The music not only soothed me but blocked out the nurse and outside helicopter noise. I also didn't buy enough of my stage 2 full liquids foods and needed to go to the store at 5 days out. Going to the store wasn't the problem, bringing the groceries into my apartment was. They were too heavy (even the milk) and I have stairs and was going to need to do a couple of trips. I ended up finding a neighbor child that helped me but I was embarrassed.
I was also glad I had bought a kitchen timer so I could set it for 30 minutes to remind me to drink again. I was also glad I remembered to get some medicine cups from the hospital to measure my one ounce at a time.
