Hello everybody,   I'm new here today and just starting to look for a surgeon.  Has anybody used Dr. Proctor or Dr. Richard at Obesity Solutions in Gainesville, GA?   They are close by and I plan to attend one of their seminars next week.   If anybody knows of a really good surgeon in Atlanta or surrounding areas, I'm definately open to suggestions!

                                           Thanks, BonBon1

I've heard a lot of good about Drs Lin, Daly, Smith, Hobson, and Duncan.  Do lots of research and check to see which ones even take your insurance.  Good luck.

I used Dr Richard and absolutely adore him! He, his NP and the rest of his staff are all awesome. Several of the folks where I work have used both Dr Richard and Dr Proctor. They both came very highly recommend and it didn't take me long to figure out why! Best of luck on your journey!

Thanks for all the info!  Phyllis, you obviously think highly of these doctors and I'm delighted to hear it.  Congrats to you all on the weight you've lost so far.  I'm impressed!

Hi Everyone! I too am a Newbie here!
Everyone seems so friendly and willing to help. I hope I have found a home for support as I have only just begun!

I am also looking for a surgeon. I am pretty much willing to go anywhere in GA for a good one...and one that accepts BCBS Federal. Has anyone ever used Dr Finley in Atlanta? I am open to any recommendations.

Thanks Bunches!!!
Heather

Hi Heather,  Welcome!  You're right, everyone does seem very friendly here.  I have BCBS Federal, too, and am wondering if you anticpate any problems with them about the surgery.  The insurance manual I have does say they pay for WLS, but of course, I know every case is different.  Also, where in Atlanta is Dr. Finley?  I'm still open to new ideas, too!   Good luck with your journey and I look forward to hearing good news on the board about you.               BonBon1

Hi Bon Bon, I called BCBS Fed and specifically asked them if they cover it.  And she told me yes.  She asked no questions.  I got the feeling that since we have the Federal plan that it is just instantaniously approved as long as you meet the requirements of the Dr.  I made an appointment with Dr Champion in ATL, his staff called BCBS and I was immediately approved, but then Dr Champions staff told me that he was not a BCBS provider (PPO) and there would be about $6K (out of my pocket) payment to him.  So, I cancelled my appointment with him.  I am really surprised at how many Dr's don't accept BCBS.  Then I came across Dr Finley and I now have an appointment with him on July 9 (which I thought was super fast).  He is located on Peachtree St (downtown, of course).  He is with Surgical Associates of Atlanta. http://www.georgialapsurgery.com/index.htm I would REALLY rather go somewhere besides ATL...My mother will probably go with me, and I don't want HER to have to deal with the traffic.  So, please if you find someplace elsewhere that accepts BCBS...let me know! Heather

Hi Heather,   Thanks for all  the info.  I got worried when you mentioned the $6K out of pocket expense, so I just called Obesity Solutions in Gainesville, the place I'm interested in, and they do accept BCBS Federal.  I don't blame you for not wanting to go to downtown Atlanta; it's a driving nightmare! Gainesville would be alot further for you if you are in Warner Robbins, but you  could always consider  it if the new doctor doesn't work out.  Obesity Solutions requires you to attend one of their free WLS seminars as a first step in their process.  They have the seminars in both Gainesville and *******     Are there any bariatric surgeons in Macon?   I know you would be alot closer there.     Good luck with it all!                                                  BonBon

Hi, Welcome. I've heard alot of good things from Obesity Solutions, even went to one seminar, but they don't take medicare so I'm now using Dr. Micheal Williams in Alpharetta. You may want to ck him out too. Before picking a surgeon I would talk to several. Good Luck to ya. God Bless, Sandra

Be a blessing to someone today.
