Hope I'm typing this in the right place.  I'm officially two weeks out... My top weight was 270, I am now at 255; which is great, but I didn't have ANY weight lost at all the second week.  I was 255 on my first doctor's check and 255 at the second.   Has this happened to any one else?

Actually I had it a bit worse to start.  I only lost one half a pound the first 2 weeks!  But then the weight started to come off.  You are considered a "light weight" so the weight lose will be a bit slower.  You also need to expect several stalls.  Your body does not lose weight and inches at the same time.  Hopefully you measured yourself before your surgery.  If not, please do so now.  Then at regular intervals measure yourself.  This is especially helpful when the scales do not  move.  And please don't become a slave tot he scale.  So long as you are following the surgeon's program you will lose the weight.  You weight lose will also slow if you are not getting in enough protein / water.   Good luck and keep the faith.  The weight will come off.  Just remember to be prepared for stalls.  I had a 5 week one recently.  It took all I had to tell myself that it had to be working.  I am happy to say the scales have started to move down again although not nearly as fast as I would have wished.  For you see, I am also considered a "light weight".

Thanks, Pat.   I did not measure myself before hand.  So I'll do it tonight.  I can tell that I've lost because of the way some of my clothes fit, but I was discouraged because of the scale.

Ive decided, in the beginning anyway, not to weigh myself unless I'm at the doctor's office.  That way I won't obsess over the numbers too much. I appreciate your comments. Ingrid

Hello,  The first 3 months will totally be up and down.  A word of advice, get rid of the scale, trust me.  That was the one thing after all the reseach that I did was tell myself not to weigh outside of the doctor's office.  Your clothes will do all the proving for you.  The first couple of months I stayed in a 24, then by the 3rd month I was in a 16...2 years later I am in a size 4, now according to the doctors scale I weigh about 140-150(5 different weights in 5 days) but still in a 4.  Just remember this,  5 lbs of muscle is a lot smaller then 5 lbs of fat...to if you are going to be doing any weight training, your weight may not change but your waist will.  Follow doc's rules to the T and it will all work out.  Much Luck  Erica

Thanks, Erica. Funny thing is, I know all of that...just have to get my own head wrapped around it, I guess.  As with anyone else whose had this surgery, diets have NOT worked...guess I need to stop thinking of this as a diet (which is temporary) and begin thinking of it as a lifestyle change.   I'm sitting here now sipping my 1st protein drink of the day. Thanks for the encouragement. Ist

Hi Ingrid!  My RNY was on 3/13.  I lost 20 pounds the first week and nothing the next 4 or 5.  While I 'knew' this was normal, I was a bit scared that 20 pounds was all I would get from the surgery!  Sounds silly, I know, but it's amazing how much psychological damage 'failing' at traditional diets can do! If you can find a support group in your area, you can talk with folks in person and be better assured that your experiences, while a bit different, are similar to those of others.  Seeing the success people have had is really uplifting.  I just went to one support group yesterday and am going to the other one on Thursday. Thanks, Sue. I'm still not sure if I'm loosing as rapidly as I should; however, I'm trying to remind myself that 20 pounds in a month is a lot of weight.   As for the support group, there is a once a month group in my area.  I went for the first time last Wed.  I really enjoyed it.  Actually, I'd like to attend more than one during a month. Thanks for the kind words. Ingrid
