Self pay in Atlanta area - RNY

My sister lives in the Atlanta area and will be paying for her surgery out of pocket.  The first doctor she consulted with quoted her $23K.  Is that reasonable for the area?  Can anyone recommend any other doctors in the area and if you know, how much they charge for self paying customers?

I had my RNY 06/20/05 using Dr Michael Williams and I was self-pay...I paid approx $23K for my surgery, but that included the hospital, anesthesiologist, as well as the surgeon's fees.  Dr Williams is in the Northpoint Mall area (near Alpharetta)...if you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to send me a PM... I am the sister of the original question asker    Dr. Williams is the doctor I am considering.   I have spoken with Kaiser  once again and it's definitely a no-go for WLS under my group's policy.   Just getting all my duckies in a row and I'm almost ready to meet Dr. Willaims. Susan

Hello Susan,  I wanted to let you know that I used Dr. Freeman in Alabama and I was too a self pay. It was only 18,100.00 there. I really liked him because he also too has had the GASTIC BYPASS. I'm almost 11 months out and I have lost 173 pounds and feeling really wonderful. Hug's

I just did a self-pay for lapband thru Dr. Titus Duncan in downtown Atlanta.  You may want to call and get a quote from them.  Dr. Duncan does all self-pays himself AND (this is what sold me!!) $2000.00 of the surgery cost was for an "insurance policy premium" that would cover any complications from the surgey, up to $250,000,  after the fact.  I'm guessing that, or something like, would be available for RNY also~ Good luck!

I'm using Dr. Williams. He is wonderful. I saw Dr. Williams for the 1st time in March and in July I will have surgery. The office staff is awesome too. I can't help you on the self-pay part. Best wishes on your new journey.  Take care, Sandra

Be a blessing to someone today.

Susan definitely plans to move forward with Dr. WIlliams.  Her appt with him is on July 11th.  Right now she is in Greece on vacation and gets back only two days before her appt.  She has her financing in order and is ready to proceed.  He has already said that she is a good candidate for surgery based on the information she submitted.  Since her insurance won't pay she is 100% self pay.
