need help finding a doctor in my area

Hello everyone, I am wanting to find a surgeon that is close to my area which is douglasville, carrollton, and or dallas..I found one in marietta but would like to find one a little closer please if anyone can help i would really appreciate it.

Hello Missy,  I think that Marietta is going to be the closest for you. I live in Stockbridge and I went to Alabama because I had to pay cash for my WLS and I would use him again if I needed to. He we really great because he really knows where we are coming from. My doctor has had the gastric bypass himself and he really looks good. I wish you the best. Hug's

Thank you for that information...I have found a couple doctors in douglasville and carrollton but nothing is listed for them recently and I just dont trust that. Thank you :)

Missy, Please remember that Bariatric Surgeons are not 'a dime a dozen' like other specialties (Ob/Gyns, Pediatricians, General Surgeons, etc)...there are really very few out there...in my initial search for a Bariatric Surgeon, I chose a Dr that was closer to me (yes, just like you)...he had an 'okay' personality, but never did I have the warm fuzzies....but the thing that turned me off about him...was that I was a cash patient, and he wanted my $$ 3 weeks in advance cashier check of my surgery date...I am sorry but that just got to me...  I had heard great things about another surgeon (a girl friend's daughter surgeon), and I went to see him...he was much further driving distance, had a much better personality, and got more warm fuzzies than the first Dr could ever have...I am still a cash patient, and he wanted my $$ at time of pre-op visit (1 week in advance) and would take my credit card as payment of my surgery date.  Best decision I ever made.  I have heard and met patients that will travel several hours to see their bariatric surgeon.  Some have lived in Macon / Columbus / Savannah and will travel to Atlanta for their surgeon.  Please remember that your overall health is at stake in this decision...to me, it was the most important decision I have ever made in my life !!!  Please consult with several Bariatric Surgeons before you make your final decision. Thanks Norma I have thought of all those things the only reason I was looking for someone closer is because I am having to use my moms car and was just curious. The doctor in marietta isnt that far and has a wonderful reputation. I havent met with him yet but was just weighing my options. Thanks everyone for the feedback. I have to go tomorrow to my PCP to discuss this more and see if he recommends anyone or if he will even support me. If not I will just have to find someone else that will. I have made up my mind that this is going to happen now I just have to make it happen. I have read all of your stories and am very inspired by you all. I have a long way to go but I have to have this done I want my life back.

I understand you are looking for one close to you.  Well, there arent many... The best one however is dr Duncan.  He is rated number 2 in the US and number 1 here in Ga.  If anyone is going to put me under he better make sure I wake up!   If you have Peachstate, I believe he is the only one here in Ga that will take it.  I am willing to travel as traveling is such as small price to pay for a new outlook on life! well I just found out that Dr Smith dont take medicaid...so can anyone help me out on who you know of that does?? I am going to try Dr Duncan but anyone else come to mind to anyone?

Hey Missy, If you look to the thread from jorgenicloe you will get all the info you need.  Peachstate is medicaid and there is only one doctor in GA that takes it.  She also has a list of doctors for the approvals that ALL take medicaid.  She did a lot of research to come up with them, believe me.. I tried and coun't find anyone to do the nutritional counseling for medicaid but she did.  Just ask Nicole..  She will be more that glad to help.  Keep us informed as to your progress.
