Hello Sherry,  I know that you are scared of this surgery but it will be all worth it. If you have co-morbility's it will improve your way of life so much. I had my RNY back in July 2006 and I have now lost 173 pounds. I'm able to do a lot more things in my life and I really feel so much better. Life now for me is really wonderful. If you need to talk I'll be here for you. Hug's

Sherry, There are always risks involved with surgery....but I see your surgeon is Dr. Champion. You are off to a great start! He is truly a pioneer in the field and if you do what he says pre and post op, you will do AWESOME! I think out of like 2010 surgeries he's only had 5 deaths, 3 of which were older men who had a TON of other health problems going in. If he anticipates issues, he takes steps to correct them BEFORE surgery. For example, I am only 5'1" and weighed 307 going into surgery. That made my BMI very high and also gave him less room to "work" because my abdomen space is smaller then someone who is taller and thinner. SO, I had to do a liquid diet and bowel prep the night before surgery (most don't). He had me do this so he would have extra room to work in there so he could make sure the surgery would be able to be done laproscopically. He's very VERY good.  Beyond that, he has an INCREDIBLE aftercare program. There is a support group at Northside Hospital the first saturday of every month which is really informative, and its also good to interact with people who are dealing with the same things you are. I've already made a lot of friends.  With all that said, it was still a very difficult decision to have this surgery. I'm only 3 weeks out. can I say that this was ABSOLUTELY positively the right thing to do? I don't know yet. Ask me in 6 months. I do know though, that I got through the surgery with no problems and when I have questions or issues there is ALWAYS someone to answer them and help me. Its been a good experience (as good as major surgery can be, right?) I hope this helps. Please feel free to PM me if you want to talk.
