Columbus Area Psych Evaluation??

Does anybody know of a psych who does the evaluations we need for surgery that is affordable?  I called a couple today and spoke to a receptionist who said insurances don't cover the evaluation and it would cost me about $400 out of pocket for it and that it was a deal.  Can anybody offer me some insight on a price range because $400 seems kind of steep.

There are two psych listed under "other professionals" for the Columbus area on the OH website.  When I called, I got their answering machine.  My doctor recommends Dr Santavicca in Atlanta.  I called and he charges $350.00, but told me that if my insurance has been paying for obesity as a diagnosis, this will be covered.  He is listed on my Cigna Healthplan as a participating provider, so I have to pay just the $30.00 co-pay. Psychologists Practicing In Columbus Gerald Edmonds Ph.D David Moyerman PHD I also gave up trying to find a nutrionalist in Columbus and am using the nut at Northside Hospital.  The dietician charges $110.00 an hour, but my insurance is suppose to pick this charge up to. I have an appointment on Monday the 4th. Good luck in your search.

I'm not sure if it's just that office or a general rule of thumb but she said Tricare doesn't.  For my nutrition class, now that you told me that's hard to find too, lol, I think I'll take the one offered at Atlanta Regional.  It's 3 and half hours for $100. Thanks for the heads up.  I'll try again tomorrow and check with who the surgeon recommends as well.

HI! My surgeon had me see a Psych in Atlanta so I can't answer your question just wanted to say hello to a fellow Phenix City gal!! If you're looking for a support group let me know, there is one in Columbus that meets once a month. They are also planning a family picnic in June.

I used Dr Robert Richard in Gainesville GA (www.obesitysolutions.com) The support group has a yahoo group. If you go to yahoo groups and type in thelightersideofcolumbus you'll go straight to it. There are several tricare folks in the group so you might post there to see who they used. A couple of them that I can think of just had their surgery recently so they may be able to provide you with some good info.  The group meets the third Thursday of the month at Sr Frances Health Matters in the Rosemont Shopping Center  (behind St Frances hosp) The next meeting is June 21, the picnic is at idle hour park on June 23rd. If you sign up on the group you'll get all the email.  I'd love to stay in touch!

Oh okay!  Yes, I belong to that group on Yahoo :)  You probably seen the same question posted there as well, lol.   I would LOVE to attend a meeting.  I'm not sure where the hospital is.  We are Military and just been here since Sept. but I will definitly try to make the next one!  Thank you so much!!  BTW, wtg on your weight loss!!

Hey!   I used Dr. Stanley Chapman in Atlanta. He is part of the Emory Bariatrics Team. Check with your insurance about your evaluation (it should be covered because because they require it as part of you wls surgery work up) Chances are they can give you the name of some one that is local or at least not too far away.  Good luck and let me know if I can help!
