Lap band surgery and looking for a surgeon

Greeting to all. I am in the begining stages of WLS research. I am interested in have the lap band surgery. I attended one seminar with Atlanta Bariatrics, I was a le ittle disappointed because most the the information given was in reference to the RNY. They talked about the lap band but the Dr. was really pro RNY. I am looking for a Dr. that whatever my decision is they will provide the best services.

Hello Lekesia, I have some information on a flyer at my office of the surgeron that is doing the LAP-BAND at HENRY MEDICAL CENTER. I'm a leader of the SUPPORT GROUP at HENRY MEDICAL CENTER. I would love for you to come on MAY 22, 2007 at 6:30 if you can. I was just at the conference in ORLANDO FLORIDA for OH and I met a lot of wonderful people there. Hi Lekesia, Sorry you were disappointed in the seminar. Were there lots of people there that were interested in the rny? If so, that might be the reason more info/talk was about rny. That happens a lot especially in the support group discussions. My niece had the lap band in 08/06. She was all set to go into her first appointment and have rny (as me and her mom had, with the sme surgeon, Dr Hart). He explained the pros and cons of both surgeries and really recommended that she have the lap band. After much more research that is the surgery she had and she couldn't be happier with the decision. To date she has lost 130 lbs (20 as a pre op) and she doesn't have the same types of episodes that I or her mom experienced. There is a local lap band group that meets the 3rd Saturday at the Buckhead library. Good luck in your journey! Marie

Hi Lekesia I am using DR Finley with Sugical Associates of Atlanta and when i went in for my consultation that is what i was inquiring on. He was very informative and made it very clear that what ever i decided he would do, he has performed many of these on his own staff. while we were talking he made it very clear that i had to make the decision on my own and that i should not ask him which one he would recommend which made me feel really comfotable because he was not pushing me one way or the other. I have been very happy with him and his staff i hope this helps some.
