I am thinking about Lap Band. I hesitate because of my age. I feel like I should have done this while I was younger. I am not really scared of the procedure, but scared of not being to eat what I am used to. I know that is why I am fat. I also think I should be able to do this, although I haven't thus far. I lost 68 pounds in 2001 and 3 years later it was back on. I am looking at the North Georgia, Obesity Solutions. Dr. Proctor and Dr. Richard in Gainesville. If anyone has any comments, please provide. I am anxious to hear your thoughts on your experience. thanks.

Hi Jane, Dr Richard did my lap-band surgery in Sept. I'm 100% happy with my results, the surgeon and his staff. I have lost 52 lbs so far and my only regret is not doing it sooner. I would suggest going to the lap band forum. (see link below) There are some people of ALL ages there. Best of luck with your decision, if you have any questions just ask or feel free to email me. How does the lap band help with your desires to eat. Is it just that you feel full or that the food comes back up or what. I am going to a meeting next week at gainesville, but I'm just curious about what happens after you get it. Thanks.

Jane, Just like any other WLS the band is just a tool. You still have to make some behavior modifications and make good choices when eating. The band restricts the amount of food that will go down, thus making you full on a smaller amount of food than before. When you are full you have a satisfied feeling therefore dont dwell on what your next bite of food will be. Patience is required with the band because you probably won't have much restriction at all at first. During those beginning months you follow the band rules because you know what to do, not because you band is telling you what to do. I've had 4 fills and now my band is working well for me. If I eat too fast or too much it will either come back up or I just sit until it goes down. Along with that comes a little wave of nausea sometimes and sometimes even a little pain...or uncomfortable feeling. That rarely happens with me though, I do try to eat so that I prevent that from happening. I don't feel as though I've explained it very well but hopefully you will get a better explaination when you go to the seminar. Both Drs are normally at all of the seminars. Best of Luck! Phyllis
